Yeah, I think we may hear that quote a time or two during the confirmation hearings. It’ll be very interesting to see how she tries to explain it away...as a lawyer, I’m always very suspicious of leftists who want to set policy from the bench. Justice too often gets left behind.

The conflict will soon be coming to a head -

the elites vs the classical liberals

It will likely be violent.

Doesn’t she mean, “LIBERAL” policy?

If you can’t get it passed by voters, just have an appointed judge do it.

UGH, Judge Napolitano making excuses for her comment.

Suggests she’ll be able to finesse that statement when questioned about it.

The Dems have some beautiful women in their midst, from Reno, to Napolitano, to Santomaoyor, to Kagan to Ginsburg, etc.

Legislating from the bench? Who knew? OK, we all did. Hopefully the rest of the country will wake up soon.

I didn’t hear the judge, but I expect he’s right: she will get away with the comment, as Obama’s team have obviously concluded themselves.

What it does, however, is provide corroborating context if another extreme position comes out.

I think the one greatest hope I have for Free Republic is that it’ll learn to rise above commenting on women’s looks when they are serious people in serious jobs.

Only half the country will “wake up”,

because the other half believes that it is necessary and good for a few elites to dictate to the masses.

The GOP must filibuster this pick until the wheels come off the machine of Congress.

So this is Obama’s plan to REMAKE America?

By changing the Constitution thru the Judicial branch with activist judges on the SCOTUS?

You know, sometimes you can tell if someone is a Leftist Activist by their demeanor and looks and she does have that

“All legislative power herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States.” (Article I, Section 1).

One doesn’t have to read very far to discover that the Supreme Court is not permitted policy making authority. That would be UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Moderator,

Why did you move this thread from “Front Page” and “Extended News” to “Your Opinion/Questions”?? The video was of Sotomayor stating in her own words that “Court is Where Policy is Made”. Nothing about it is “my opinion”. I didn’t even add any personal comments.

Indeed, my hope is probably in vain.

But for all of Freepers’ talk of judging people as individuals and by the content of their character (and for many of the Freepers I’ve seen not being the primest physical specimens themselves!) there is a real ugliness to the nasty physical commentary that women undergo in the public eye—and FR is about as bad as it gets.

I think the chilling point is “...I know this is on tape so I shouldn’t, I shouldn’t say that.”. This really spells out the duplicity in the behavior of liberal minds and bodies.

I am thrilled about this pick. Sotomoyor is an intellectual lightwight. I was very worried about Wood and Kanag who are far more intellectually impressive, as well as reportedly charismatic and able to sway others to their views. Sotomayor is a real dope, if you read her opinions. As an attorney who has argued in front of the NYS supreme court, we have always considered Sotomayor's opinions to be short on detail, long on pedestrian language, and leaving few satisfied. We all expect Wood, or perhaps Kagan. I believe Sotomoron will have a hard time convincing swing votes like Kennedy to join her side.

Moreover she is a Type 1 diabetic and the life span for diabetics is 15 years less than normal population. So Roberts and Alito should be there after she is gone.
