Sotomayor's Radical Legal Group Helped Kill the Estrada Nomination

President Obama's radical new nominee to replace Associate Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, used to serve on the board of LatinoJustice PRLDEF (White House backgrounder), one of the racial grievance groups that helped to sink the judicial nomination of Honduran-born Miguel Estrada in 2003.

Along with groups such as the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), LatinoJustice fought a war of attrition against President George W. Bush's 2001 nomination of conservative Miguel Estrada, a Honduran-born immigrant, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Democrats in the Senate filibustered the nomination and a weary Estrada withdrew from consideration in 2003.

Today LatinoJustice PRLDEF, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit, hailed the nomination of Sotomayor on the basis of her ethno-cultural heritage. "As the second largest and fastest growing population in America, with a large pool of qualified individuals to choose from, it was wholly appropriate for the president to nominate a Hispanic," the group said in a written statement. (PDF)

According to the group's website, it gets some of its funding from George Soros's Open Society Institute.

A search of philanthropy databases reveals other significant donors to LatinoJustice to be Carnegie Corporation of New York ($1,025,000 since 2000), Ford Foundation ($2,280,000 since 2001), Rockefeller Foundation ($1,275,000 since 2000), and JPMorganChase Foundation ($70,000 since 2001).

Among radical left-wing groups, it has a fairly garden-variety agenda. A captive of identity politics, it pushes for enforced multiculturalism, diversity, bilingual public education, race-based gerrymandering of electoral districts, race-based employment quotas, tenants' rights, and illegal immigrants' rights.

LatinoJustice PRLDEF was known as the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund until last year when it filed Articles of Amendment with New York State to change its name.

I called it a couple of months back that this woman would be selected. She is not only radical, who loosely interprets the Constitution sometimes despising it, but she also wears a chip on her shoulder and is a feminist.

Hannity said on his radio show that one time she was dominating a proceeding not allowing questions to be answered and the judge next to her leaned over and said to her ‘will you please shut up and allow him to speak’?

maybe this nomination isn’t about the Supreme Court.
maybe Obama wants the Republicans to oppose a hispanic
woman while he nominates a hispanic woman.

Given that he is holding an Amnesty summit, which includes
granting amnesty to millions of hispanics...

maybe the whole thing is about locking in hispanic votes for a generation.

Sorry folks...this latina will be confirmed. The only Republicans today with balls are talk radio hosts and a little ole gal from Alaska.

While Republicans have been tentative in their statements, they’ve made it clear that this won’t be a coronation. She will have to answer questions that Ruth Ginsburg never had to. To their (minor) credit, Republicans admit that they should not have let Ginsburg get through with so little scrutiny.

No matter how big the size of the Republicans' balls are at this point, they don't have the votes to stop her confirmation. Though I agree that it will take balls to oppose her based on principle.

And Sotomayor being a Latina isn't an issue, but the issue is that she isn't qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. She is a radical and an activist who has publicly said that her job is to make policies. The media and the Democrats are inserting race as an issue so people will be distracted from the substantive problems with her nomination.

This woman is dangerous to our Constitution. That being said, I don't know if she is any more dangerous that the other woman (knowing a woman WILL get this nomination) that he will nominate. I heard that Sotomayor was a member of La Raza. I also hear she in no intellectual. She practices identity politics and will not be a voice for upholding our Constitution. God help our country.

I wonder if this group is connected with the pardon given to the Puerto Rican Terrorists by Clinton (advocated by Eric Holder)?

If one more person says she was the most qualified for the job I am going to personally punch their face in.

Reading through the bios the other day of the top 5 rumored there were a couple of more qualified woman and the most qualified was a man.

The problem was they weren’t hispanic. This was going to a hispanic woman and she was the biggest butt sucker to Obama.

Exactly. She was probably the most qualified Hispanic woman. Not the most qualified at all, not even if you look at the list of the top rumored people the most qualified woman. There’s also a hispanic man they talked about early on who’s name escapes me but he has the wrong equipment.

Agree....I guess the point I was making was that even though her confirmation is inevitable....this is a HUGE opportunity for Republicans to define themselves and Obama. I fear they will remain moderate and not embrace the conservative core that made the party great.

In summary, only liberals and leftists count as a member of an aggrieved minority, they may make racist comments, and if you call them on their liberalism or racism, you are the racist.
