Levy Viewed as Way to Reduce Deficits, Fund Health Reform
With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: a national sales tax.

I saw a news scroll on my local news stating that congress is mulling this. I came online googled it in NEWS and the way that the media is reporting this is like they work for Obama. I am not shocked persay but how could such ludicrous news be presented like it is what Obama wants to pay for health care so it will be?
This needs to stop.

My understanding is it would take a 15% value added tax to cover the cost of nationalized health care. This is a tax on everyone, nut just the hated rich. I’d be willing to bet a lot of money on the outcome of this idea. I hope the Dems try it. Talk about the tax and spend label the Republicans could use against the Dems.

looks like an absolute replication of Canada’s Goods and Services Tax (GST), which all goes to pay for socialized medicine.

Do you know how many things that LOOK like they would never pass that have? The bailout crap for starters.I fear this is politics but destruction to the point of complete liberal power in the highest office in the land.
Obama could trial balloon in the media the idea of us all eating only goats and their milk and all have to pay for health care for illegals with a tax and the media would go for it and promote it until done.
Fox News was the only article in a google search that said this was a bad thing.

a VAT is not a sales tax. Its a hidden tax imposed at every stage of production

Paychecks seem to be gutted and gutted more. If you bust your ass and work doing skilled labor all day and into OT by the time you pay the tax on the OT you may as well just give up and die.

Since when is adding a new tax on top of all the other taxes an “unthinkable” thing in DC?

By the time the 2010 elections come around the Dims will have the US so wrapped up in communism that the sheeple will not allow the probable new Republican majority to correct the course of the vehicle before it runs over the ledge. They will be so attached to the scraps (freebies) that Obama tosses to them.
If the Dims retain control after 2010 by the time the Anointed One comes up for reelection our pay checks will be transmitted directly to the US Government and then it will be divided up to the States and the local governments and the pitiful remainder may get sent to us.
This will let Obama control us and the States and if they do not toe the leftist line they get nothing.

At the end of the year, they’d probably kick in a big tax credit for those making under a certain amount...cancelling out what they had had to pay in value added tax...betcha that’s the plan. We’ve got to keep those welfare families happy, and what better what than to exempt them from the taxes everyone else pays.

"Everybody who understands our long-term budget problems understands we're going to need a new source of revenue,... There is a distinct lack of the word "cuts" in all discussions of government revenue.
