San Francisco police commissioners cleared a police captain of misconduct charges related to his alleged interference with a police investigation of off-duty officers accused in the beating of two men on the street in 2002.
The so-called "fajita-gate" scandal grew out of an early morning incident outside a Union Street bar on Nov. 20, 2002, between three officers and two men, one of whom allegedly refused to hand over a bag of steak fajitas to the officers. The men said they were punched and kicked, and one was reportedly hit with a bottle.
The disciplinary charges, filed by the city's Office of Citizen Complaints in 2004, accused Capt. Greg Corrales of interfering with a police investigation into the incident, in violation of two of the department's general orders. Police commissioners Wednesday voted 6-1 not to sustain the charges, in what was the last of the disciplinary cases connected with the incident.
"I think it's fair to say that after seven years in this city, that tonight we can put the Fajita-gate incident behind us," said Commission President Theresa Sparks. Related Stories
The officers, David Lee, Matthew Tonsing and Alex Fagan Jr., the son of former police Chief Alex Fagan, were acquitted of most of the criminal charges against them. The two men, Jade Santoro and Adam Snyder, later were awarded $46,000 in a civil lawsuit.
Several members of the department's command staff, including then-police Chief Earl Sanders, then-Assistant Chief Alex Fagan Sr., and Corrales, were indicted by a grand jury, but later cleared, on charges of obstructing justice.
Next up? “Donut-Gate?”
How about Panang curry-gate?
PS: You know you want one. :-)
Now wait a minute. Her “bio” says she’s a Vietnam vet. Then says she was in the Army during the Vietnam war. I wonder if she ever set foot in Vietnam.
The guy standing to the right of sparks in the picture used to be a woman so it balances out in a twisted sort of way.
