By standing up himself to bash Cheney, all Obama's doing is pushing the debate further -- and it only hurts Obama.
That's the narcissist in him, of course. He can't abide anything that makes him look bad.
Somebody -- Cheney, or whoever is putting him up to it -- is pushing Obama's buttons like a master.
The Left does this habitually. Any criticism, no matter how valid and obvious, gets responded to with "oh, that's been debunked." The reference is always to a left-wing website, and the "debunking" may consist of nothing but pointing out syntax errors, but this hardly matters; the only important thing is the insistence that "that's been debunked."
The Left learned a long time ago that headlines and quick soundbites are all that matters.
Cheney's been dealing with this issue for almost 8 years; methinks he knows what he's talking about.

If they want to single out one or two among the 1200 to 1300 (counting Bagram), why don't they mention the guy who got an artificial leg at Gitmo, convinced his interrogators that he wasn't a terrorist, and then went back home to fight against us again, on his new prosthesis? He should be the poster boy, not Masri.
