Thanks for the ping. I am heartsick about the current occupants of the WH and these photos take me back to a much safer time.

Gee, even in casual wear, Laura dresses classier than MO in her formal attire....here comes that sick feeling again.

STARWISE: THANK YOU for these AWESOME links . . . As far as I’m concerned, we can’t produce enough “Thank You President Bush” videos to cover the ‘debt’ we owe this amazing leader!

I found some more photos from yesterday — more photos of our ‘W’ and his wonderful ‘Poppy’:

“My first thought, though, was of his artificial hip. Sky diving couldn’t be good for it, but I noticed he kept his right leg raised. Was that the hip that was replaced?”
-

I believe ‘Poppy’ has had both of his hips replaced; however, his most significant problem now is his lower back. He has had some corrective surgery, but it didn’t solve all of his problems — a situation that has significantly curtailed both his ability to walk upright (as you could see yesterday) and his ability play sports, particularly his beloved ‘speed’ golf! It amazes me that ‘Poppy’ even got near that plane much less jumped out of it — he’s one tough, determined man!

Two hips replaced, a bad back, probably thin bones, and he's jumping out of planes??? Hmmmm-— I'm surprised Mama Bush hasn't jumped all over him and stopped it. I was thinking of my bad back and the jar the landing would do to it. By flying in tandem with the big muscular guy (soldier, sailor, Marine??), would the partner absorb most of the shock of landing? Papa Bush's partner did set it down gently.

I agree with you,”...he’s one tough, determined man!”

WOODWARD PREPARES FOR JULY 4 VISIT FROM PRESIDENT BUSH

WOODWARD, Oklahoma - July 4, a patriotic holiday filled with fireworks is right around the corner, and for the people in Woodward that means a visit from former president George W. Bush.

The community of 12,000 is preparing for a large crowd at their July 4 celebration called “Let Freedom Ring 2009.”

. . . Laubhan said they have had plenty of volunteers including calls from residents wanting to bake former president Bush a birthday cake or give him a gift.

Woodward Mayor Bill Fanning said his office is also getting calls from people wanting to park cars, distribute programs, anything they can do to help with this exciting patriotic event.

Ticket phone lines have also been busy as volunteers answer calls almost non-stop.

“We’ve had calls from every state, people coming in to enjoy this event....international. We’ve got people calling on from Japan ordering tickets,” Laubhan said. “It just is really amazing what kind of a crowd a person like him can draw in and from how far.”

OBAMA DESERVES NO CREDIT FOR LEBANESE ELECTIONS
(President Bush Does)
By Paul Ibrahim

A rare piece of good news recently came out of the Middle East: An American-backed (or, rather, Bush-backed) political coalition defeated Hezbollah and its allies in Lebanese parliamentary elections. And ever since, President Obama’s supporters have desperately made every stretch to credit him – and particularly his Cairo speech – for the victory, in an attempt to justify the less-than-impressive foreign policy route of his young administration.

As a Lebanese-born and raised columnist who, for obvious reasons, has studied and kept a close eye on developments in Lebanon, I feel compelled to address such claims.

. . . “As more than one Lebanese whispered to me: Without George Bush standing up to the Syrians in 2005 – and forcing them to get out of Lebanon after the Hariri killing – this free election would not have happened.”

Oh wait, the one piece of evidence Friedman offers credits Bush with the election, not Obama. Indeed after watching Bill Clinton look away for eight years as Syria raped Lebanon, the Bush Administration forced the expulsion of the occupiers and paved the path for another round of favorable elections.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, had nothing to do with the results.

I have that DVD set on our Netflix queue. I'd seen a bit of it when we had an HBO preview weekend once, but not the whole thing.

I'd read David McCollough's terrific book about John Adams not too long ago, then a book about the election of 1800. Folks talk about the ugliness of campaigns nowadays as though it's something new. That election was brutal!

Update on dad:-

Dad is making good progress, he is eating like a horse, example this was his menu today.

Breakfast
Slice bread and butter with marmalade, slice of buttered fruit loaf and a kiwi fruit.

Lunch
Sausage sandwich, slice of buttered fruit load and small fruit cake

Dinner
Cray fish and avocado
Roast lamb with roast potatoes and parsnips
Tinned peaches
Cheese and crackers

Supper
ice cream cornet with walnut ice cream and chocolate flake
4 chocolates

He is now having physio and can stand and with the aid of his walking frame do about 4 steps albeit not very safe ones. The physio is to build up his muscle so that he can do a few steps safely. We are also aiming to teach him how to transfer from the bed to a wheelchair and a wheelchair to a car so that we can take dad out for a drive.

One reason I stopped posting so much on Free Republic is the Bush bashing that goes on here. So, this morning, there are threads about the President's speech. Guess what - just more opportunity for FReepers to sit at their keyboards and pretend they have all the answers and bash the President. BDS is still rampant.

AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel better now that I got that off my chest... but I do get mighty sick and tired of the Bush trashing that goes on!
