“his name was run through the system, Meadows was not found to have any previous history with law enforcement”
“I don’t know the details of his actions, but it must have been credible enough ... “
Sheriff H. Hound was concerned enough to see if the `perp’ had a record (none) but ass-umed the feds had the goods, when they `requested’ his assistance, so ... (then the good constable said, `Grease up & bend over for the feds, boys!’)
I repeat, no arrests would have been made if there wasnt a report of threats being made.
Interesting conclusion, when the limited available facts suggest otherwise.
Here is what we can say: It appears the sheriff was playing it safe rather than proceeding on probable cause.
If he had had PC he would not have had to offer the following statement:
“We took extra precautions because he is a veteran and has had weapons training, so we felt it was better to err on the side of caution,”
I predict that statement will be one of the exhibits in any false arrest suit.
You don’t know what the threats were either and you don’t know if this is harassment. Just because someone is a vet doesn’t mean that they should get a pass. I knew a guy who was a vet and made a remark the he had a bullet with “W” written on it. He hated Bush and this was definitely a veiled threat. He got a visit from the Secret Service a few days later.
Ok folks....
The Federal Protective Service has an obligation to investigate ALL threats against the President and Federal Officials.
I had some experience with this during the Federal trial of one VIKRAM BHUDDI in Hammond, Indiana.
He hacked several Yahoo Accounts and spent days trying to incite people to kill President Bush., using several ghost accounts on the servers of Purdue University, where he was a grad student employee.
As far as I know, he fled home to Pakistan, rather than face sentencing, after his conviction.
If he said something stupid, then the Feds are just doing thier job. You have a right to free speech, but not to shouting Fire in a crowded theater.
WAIT!....the Morgan County’s Sheriff is named
Vince ShamWow??????????
what are the odds....”hey you’re gonna love my nuts”
Ya, the Feds also have an obligation to protect and secure our borders. We all know how that worked out.
Thank you for providing some sanity.
No, but my sister did. LOL!
Sure we will.
Knew it.:)
Yeah, he deserved it too. The guy had made several other threats, but this one was beyond the pale.
OK, I may owe you an apology for my knee-jerk analysis (am trying to chew gum and walk and talk here).
I appears the Sheriff was acting with a SS warrant and the extra caution was due to the fact the target had a background in arms. Prudent move when a Sheriff wants to protect his people.
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me!
I would have called my post paranoid too a couple of years ago. But look at what's happened to this country in the last 5-6- months. Did you ever think you'd see the day when the government would have wiped out the Investment Banking Industry, when the government would OWN GM...when Universal Health Care would be shoved down our throats, when something as insidious and dangerous to what remains of our manufacturing base as Cap and Trade would be looming over our sick and weak economy like buzzards over a half dead horse? I won't put anything over on this crowd.
Believe me when I say this, I agree with you. What gets under my skin is all these comments about how we’ve lost our country, etc. It sounds just like all the libs sounded when Bush was in office and I hate to see our side going down that same road. What is even more disconcerting is watching our elected officials passively take it, as well.
We are only lost when we lay down and refuse to fight for what we believe in.
They found Meadows in bed
lol...
“We are only lost when we lay down and refuse to fight for what we believe in.”
Only a total idiot would make a statement like that in this thread and believe it.
“Is there...anyone...who can tell me if defend the Constitution being listed first in this oath carries more weight than obey the orders of the President?”
That language appears in the oath administered to enlisted military personnel - and perhaps others. Most will tell you they would rather obey what appears to be a lawful order before trying to analyze the Constitutionality of that order.
If you Google the oath for military officers, U.S. Senators, etc. and you will see the duty is limited to defending the Constitution; not to the country, not to the President, etc. Thank God!
“They found Meadows in bed
lol...”
He was obviously in the deep intricate planning stages of his complex plot. Him, his pillow and some Nyquil.
How about calling the guy up and interviewing him in person, instead of deploying a freaking SWAT team with no evidence given by the Secret Service other than a general charge without evidence?
So, if this was all bs, how does this guy get his reputation back?
