Christopher David Jones, the Crofton 14-year-old who died after an alleged attack by two other teens, was laid to rest Wednesday morning in a tearful 75-minute service in which the church pastor called on the community to guide the area's youth to make good choices and "love each other."

It is parents who need to bond with and control their teenagers, who go looking for gangs to hang with to replace the Mom and Dad family time they lack.

This is not being classified as a hate crime even though it has been reported that the five to seven assailants were black and the victim was white. This would be wall to wall coverage if the identities were reversed. As I said on a different thread when it comes to race issues in this country it is truly a one way street.

What if children who commit adult crimes were charged as adults? Or what if their juvenile record didn’t just disappear when they turn 18? Criminal kids need a deterrent, and now I don’t think they have one.

Black-on-whitey hate crimes do not occur in Maryland. Remember those whiteys on the buses in Baltimore who were beaten up by black youths? Not only were no hate crime charges levied, the assailants were lionized in their hood. I expect them to be acquitted and given a medal for their crime.

I have no problem in general if the citizenry, through elected officials, wants to establish commensurate penalties, to include capital punishment, for children who commit crimes worthy of such penalties.

But I don't like the twisted logic of charging a child as an adult at the discretion of the legal bureaucracy.

If they want to charge a child as an adult they should be willing to grant the child his majority, everything that goes with being an adult, if the child is found not guilty. If they are not willing to do that, arguments that the child should be treated as an adult are hollow.

I would suggest a “3 strikes” system for juvenile crimes... any teen who is convicted of more than 3 crimes as a juvenile will have each subsequent crime prosecuted in adult court.

Some black parents can’t or won’t control their own kids, which is why they wind up in jail. I would never permit my kids to engage in an act of violence against a black kid.

I would suggest that the second crime they commit as a juvenile would automatically have them tried as an adult. Clearly, they are repeat offenders.
