Will La Raza Repudiate Judge Sotomayors “Wise Latina” Statement?
STE=Q

Sonia Sotomayor -- President Obama’s nomination for the supreme court of the United states -- is a member of the National Council of La Raza, (‘the race’) a controversial group that purports to speak for Latino’s and people of Hispanic descent… a rather large swath of the population by anyone’s measure.

La Raza (www.nclr.org) claims to be “the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.”

They also claim to reach “millions of Hispanics each year in 41 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia…”

Now “millions of Hispanics” is a big number… and IF the National Council of La Raza were to have a stellar member, such as Judge Sotomayor, advocating for them on the supreme court... that would be quite an accomplishment, would it not?

Now many folks have accused the National Council Of La Raza (NCLR)as being a racist group.

Many object to the words -- La Raza -- which translate into English as “The Race.”

However, La Raza counters that the word, basically, just means “The People.”

However, “The People,” in this case, still boils down to people of Latino and Hispanic descent.

In short, it is a support and advocacy group formed by Latinos and Hispanics to assist Latino’s and Hispanics.

La Raza further claims that its staff have been represented …“by Americans from a wide spectrum of racial and ethnic groups—White, Black, Asian, Native American, Hispanic”… and that their… “personnel policies, and institutional values contain explicit prohibitions against discrimination.”

Now one of their members -- a self described “Latina” by the name of Judge Sonia Sotomayar -- has been nominated to our countries most prestigious legal post: The Supreme Court of The United States.

Now Latino’s and Hispanics should be very proud of this nomination, however, there is a “fly in the ointment” (so to speak) over something that Judge Sotomayor said at a lecture in 2001, that was also published in the Spring 2002 issue of Berkeley La Raza Law Journal, as follows:

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life” ("Raising the Bar: Latino and Latina Presence in the Judiciary and the Struggle for Representation.”)

Now, at face, the statement appears to have both racist and sexist overtones and many non Latino or Hispanic white males, took great umbrage with this statement… a statement from one of La Raza’s most outstanding members.

Even if Judge Sotomayor’s statement was not intended to be racist or sexist, it has been perceived as that by a very large portion of the population and threatens to divide our great nation along racial and ethnic lines.

The Latino and Hispanic community -- and, indeed ALL Americans -- deserve to have a person on our Supreme Court who does not have a cloud of racism, or sexism, hanging over their head.

Our courts must NOT be tainted in this way!

The above is something that people of all political persuasions -- that love their country -- can agree on.

La Raza claims to be non-racist and nondiscriminatory and to serve the community’s that they work in.

Now the question arises, will la Raza -- as the patriotic and loyal American’s that they claim to be -- step up to the plate and repudiate, in the strongest possible terms, the racist, and sexist statement that Judge Sotomayor made at that lecture?

On Mark Levin today it was reported that there is now confirmed documentation of her having made pretty much the same anti-white male statement a decade earlier and her college thesis expressed the same sentiment. For a long period of her adult life, she refused to say United States, and used phrases like “North American Congress” instead of U.S. Congress. A hard core anti=American separatists. Such a person must be blocked from getting this lifetime position. She doesn’t qualify even to be a juror.

"The People" my @$$:

The same dictionary translated "the people" as "la gente" and their (LA RAZA's) alternate false alibi "the community" as "la comunidad." Neither gives "la raza" as another translation.

Thanks for the information!

Another ‘spin’ is the ‘cosmic’ people...whech is kinda cool if you’re ‘in’(Latino/Hispanic) but if you’re ‘out’ — where does that leave you?

How do you top or equal the ‘cosmic’ man?

Sounds a lot like Hitler’s (unoriginal)idea of a supperior race, doesn’t it?
