President Obama is just killing the progressive movement.
For the past few years, liberal activists have gathered in Washington each spring for the Take Back America conference, where speaker after speaker -- Obama sometimes among them -- would give rollicking denunciations of the Bush administration before packed rooms of partisans.
But now that Obama has actually taken back America, the activists at this year's gathering feel a bit like the dog that finally caught up with the car. Organizers changed the name from Take Back America to America's Future Now, but that didn't prevent a sharp decline in participation.
At sparsely attended sessions this week at the Omni Shoreham, the progressive leaders debated whether they should shift their efforts to defending Obama, or fighting him when he strays from liberal doctrine. "It was easy taking back America," Robert Borosage, the conference organizer, told about 250 of the faithful at yesterday's closing luncheon. "Now we have to remake it. . . . That's the hard work."
Apparently so. Speakers at the closing session exhorted the liberals to take back America -- from Obama. "The president of the most powerful country in the world is doing all right, but there are a lot of people in this country who are not doing all right," writer Naomi Klein told the crowd. "Obama is making us stupid," she added. "Love can make you stupid."

I’m amazed this came from the Washington Compost.
Right after the election the lefty Boston Phoenix launched the “Take Back Barack” blog. Featuring a picture of an Obama doll being held in the clutches of a white hand
(racist message? White power...?)
” It’s time to reclaim the man we put in the White House “

>>Progressives have a variety of objections, largely relating to flip-flops (warrantless wiretapping), climbdowns (withdrawal from Iraq and taxing the ultra-rich), and betrayals (keeping Bushies like Robert Gates and Michael Hayden anywhere near the halls of power). Many also object to a return of Clintonites, who while certainly Democrats, were hardly progressives in many areas.
What you said. A room full of jerks trying to find meaning for their worthless lives.
I bet the Omni Shoreham was missing a whole lot of towels after this pack of trash got done.
Their "faith" is not in God, but themselves and those who are imposing tyranny (and doing that quite efficiently).
"hard work?" Hardly.
They never wanted to do any real "work" at all. They stand for complaining, victimization, special rights, group rights, communism, fascism, atheism, and hatred of the Almighty.
The only reason the Compost wrote this is to lament how much fun it was going after the Bush Administration and those who were actually doing something positive for America.
“Love Can Make You Stupid”
“Obama is making us stupid!”
I see a T-shirt in your future. Wear it proudly.
Washington Compost? oh, yes- the dung heap of yellow journalism
Naomi's statement corrected. I would also suggest that Zero's voters were stupid before his anointment. He had nothing to do with making them that way.
Ding, ding, ding! Jackpot!

You tripped over a truth....
Obama (and sotomayor) are the high-water mark (so far) in the rebellion against the authority of straight, Christian white men over thirty-five.
Millions of black, spanish, gay, young, new Americans who have watched as the Bushes, Rumsfelds, Cheneys, Nixons, Ikes, Roosevelts, Lincolns, Washingtons, Jeffersons Wall Street demons, British Empire builders, John Wayne...have shaped and controlled their world (and therefore their lives and futures. Now it is 'their turn'.
The Christian-white-male hating media has endorsed and pushed this resentment from the elevation of Oprah and Tyra to the level of arbitors of societal mores to the proliferation of "dopey white dads" on TV shows and commercials to Law & Order where every killier or sex freak in NYC is a middle-aged white Christian man.
Now the resentment that borders on hatred has won the most important victory...they cleaned house. They are damned giddy over their victory.
But some of them are slowly coming to the realization that this victory, this "change" may prove phyrric. They may actually come to realize, however painfully, that the reason the structure at the top was populated with Christian white men is because it is they who poured the foundation and it is they who have built the castle on that foundation. It wasn't as easy as it looks to those who have never tried it.
This is a classic example of why liberals in general (and progressives, in particular) cannot govern. Their philosophy (and the tactics which derive from them) presume a struggle against power. Against "The Man". When they BECOME The Man, they cannot struggle against themselves, so they must find other powers against which to struggle - Wall St., Big Tobacco, Big Pharmaceutical, Rush Limbaugh, etc.
God gives us a desire to be significant - in our relationship with Him.
The Fall, and Satan, have corrupted that desire such that these captive, lost souls seek their significance in their groupthink, in their “social activism”, and in their “hipness” (which is nothing more than being as worldly as possible).
Which came first?
The Liberalism
or
the stupidity?
It’s also an example that can lead to a dangerous consequence.
When collectivists get power, they discover that their collectivism simply doesn’t work,
so, in order to maintain power, they find a group to blame for the failure, leading to genocide, usually.
Not only do they not know how to govern but become targets of their own people who thrive on tearing down, criticizing, wanting more, actually wanted to deconstruct any power that exists becasue they think only they can run things.
Plus once they are in power, the think the trough is open and start to do dumb things like putting cash in freezers, taking million dollar dates, enjoying celebrity.
Not a good end for all this.
In other words, the adults.
