"Austin is Texas’ lil piece of California"

Austin makes even Santa Monica, and San Francisco seem conservative.

Kendell county? I'm surprised. Is that an Edwards aquifer thing? They tried doing something similar in Brenham a couple years back and it got shot down. Special election for the proposal, and only those with wells bothered voting...

Good luck with the meters - all the well owners need to make this an election priority for the county commissioners.

"Why aren't conservatives working furiously?"

Some are, like for instance, the John Birch Society, but have you noticed how many here revile true conservatives? They call conservatism "tinfoil." They say "McCarthyism" like it's a curse word.

But not Berkeley...at least not yet

During last Christmas, I took the wife and kids to see Christmas lights. We heard about the famous 37th street Christmas lights in Austin. It was a 100% Obama worship from curb to curb, even a manger with baby Obama.

We quickly fled and went to Cedar Park to see OUR famous lights on an alcove (forget the street name). The Cedar Park christmas display took donations for Brown Santa and broke the County record. The Austin 37th street "Christmas" light display is a total disgrace.

>>Energy Free Weatherization Program<<

Big frig’in deal. Sounds like another “feel good” motto for the libs.

I noticed you posted in reply #51

“I can’t wait to get my house built in the county so I can move out of Austin.”

Make sure you are completely OUT of Travis county. We live in the far NW part, and our property taxes are going up and up and up.

Berkeley is freakey, and wierd, but it is not as intensely invasively leftist as Austin. Berkeley is stupid, but Austin is dangerous along with stupid.

I respectfully disagree. I think Berkeley California is a few degrees more to the left than is Austin. In Berzerkely, they live in trees, shut down military recruiting centers and shoot cops among many other atrocities.

Well, it’s sort of all aquifers in this movement but in our case, it’s the Cow Creek aquifer (what a great name, I could think of many appropos remarks to make about that!), which set up it’s own control district. We had commissioner’s court input, some good folks attended, lots of common-sense and logic, unfortunately there’s too much hysteria over water resources so just about any “conservation” move is supported.

As I pointed out, subdivisions are still coming in like gang busters but we’ll see about that with this economy.

The state mandated that counties create some sort of conservation measures to deal with growing populations but they did NOT mandate taxing folks, that’s just a given with tax and spend folks, they can’t help their addiction to your money you see. They kept saying, “But the state mandates this” and we countered by READING those requirements back to them but who’s listening anyway.

The cop shooting is in Oakland. (Ron Dellums is now Mayor)

The tree people can be blamed on the liberal judges; the city council was doing all they could to get them down, but the courts were thwarting everything.

“Austin is the state capital, is it not? Is that it, the libs controlling the center of state power, or is it just that UT is there? Or both”?

...both I’m afraid. There are areas that surround Austin that are conservative. Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Dripping Springs, San Antonio is very conservative. The city of Austin is a great place to spend an evening...then get back to the burbs!

“chances are you will be served by a mutilated and fully tattoo’d two legged hepatitis host. Amy’s Ice Cream can’t hire enough of them”.

...ahhhh. Amy’s “mexican vanilla and oreo’s”! My favorite! Served by a stinky, birkenstock hippie wearing a “Cat in The Hat” hat.

The last time I went there, I was with my Mom and was horrified to be served by a thing who had huge saucer ear mutilations, metal studs poking out his skin everywhere and head to toe tattoos.

That was 6 years ago.

I've never been to a Thundercloud sub because they advertise as hiring local musicians. I'm old school musician from the 70's and it has an even worse reputation now. For that reason alone, I avoid Thundercloud subs.

Should I give Thundercloud a try? What do you get there if you go?

There are two more very blue areas of TX. One is in SE TX where the unions run the refineries, etc. The other is along the border between TX and Mexico.

Californians and people from NJ and MA are moving here in droves and are changing politics in the state. Count in all the Mexicans who live here and vote (legally and illegally) this state will become very blue in the next 10 years. At least, that's what I fear is happening.

Thunderclous subs has about the best tuna sub I’ve ever had. It has jalopenos and avocado! Roast beef and avocado is great too. Unfortunately, you will be served by someone with “huge saucer ear mutilations, metal studs poking out his skin everywhere and head to toe tattoos.”
