Barack and Michelle Obama's fairytale love story of an adoring couple propelled on to the international stage has caught the imagination of millions.
Their regular Friday "date nights" make the television news, and there was a stir recently when they caught Air Force One for a night at the theatre in Manhattan.
This weekend, in the aftermath of the D-Day celebrations, they are in Paris with their young daughters - having turned down an invitation for dinner with President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla in favour of a more intimate family event.
But it was not always wedded bliss for the First Couple. A new book, Renegade, about Mr Obama's unlikely run for the presidency, recounts a tense period in 2000 when the Obamas' marriage was on the brink of collapse because of his restless political hunger and the family's shattered finances.
"There was little conversation and even less romance," wrote the Birmingham-born Mr Wolffe, who covered Obama's campaign for Newsweek magazine. "She was angry at his selfishness and careerism; he thought she was cold and ungrateful."
At the time, Mr Obama was stuck on the lowest step of the political ladder. As a mere state senator in Illinois, he had challenged a popular incumbent in a Democratic primary by running against Bobby Rush, a former Black Panther from Chicago. Mr Obama was trounced by a dismal 2-1 margin.
His wife was new to motherhood, at home with their first daughter Malia, just two years old at the time. "She hated the failed race for Congress in 2000, and their marriage was strained by the time their younger daughter, Sasha, was born. Politics seemed like a waste of time to Michelle," the book says.

You said that their marriage may serve as an “inspiration” to young blacks, and that that would be an improvement.
First of all, everyone knows by now that Obama is bi-sexual. In the case of MO, most of us that have our radar on can sense her disdain for white people.
Their marriage is a complete sham, as bad as the Klintons, if not worse. Their whole purpose for being married is to actively hate white people.
First of all, you do a huge disservice to those blacks that have legitimate honest marriages that are a positive influence on their communities. You minimize them. That’s wrong.
Secondly, the premise that the way a black marriage in America can excel is to hate white people? That’s not inspirational. That’s cloaked hatred.
You should rethink that.

I don't know where you live, but let me represent to you that there are an astounding number of cultural opportunities in DC, within ten minutes of the White House: concerts, clubs, shows, restaurants, galleries, museums, private parties, et cetera ad infinitum. Those living in that enormous house also have the ability to command a White House performance from any musicians, actors, or comedians they choose. They have no dearth of amusements here. And they have only been here for a bit over four months so they have hardly exhausted the possibilities DC offers. Heck, I've lived here for thirty years and I haven't yet exhausted the possibilities here.P>My point is that it was in no sense necessary for them to go skylarking in New York City or burn up the taxpayers' money on such a foolish whim. We aren't denying them "a life" if we suggest that this was a staggering extravagance and just what one would expect of a narcissist.

I was at Blockbusters on Saturday renting videos, and I was going along the wall and there was a video called "Obama". I told the men next to me that I wouldn't waste my time. We started talking about Obama.
These guys were Arabs, and I asked them why they thought Michele Obama headed home following her visit in France instead of traveling on to Saudi Arabia and Turkey with her husband.
They said she couldn't go to Saudi Arabia , Turkey or Iraq>
I said "Laura Bush went to Saudia Arabia , Turkey , Dubai ."
They answered, "Obama is a Muslim, and by Muslim law, he would not be allowed to bring his wife into the countries that accept Sharia Law."
Just thought it was interesting that the Arabs at Blockbuster's accept the idea that we're being led by a Muslim who follows the Islamic creed. They also said that's the reason he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia . It was a signal to the Muslim world.

For some time, I’ve thought that a good way to bring down Obama would be to send a gorgeous female operative to seduce him and then expose the affair. Or maybe a gorgeous male operative.
Hmmmm. That is very intersting and I am betting there is something to it. Did the administration ever give a reason why she did not go to to the Middle East? I am convinced that he is a radical Muslim and is involved in the greatest terrorist attack this country will ever know, which has been in the planning for the past ten to fifteen years.

At any rate, you seem to be as arrogant as zero is, so we can discontinue this dialog. I was trying to be polite to you by not directly pointing out that your know-it-all crap was not even applicable to what I’m talking about, which is that a positive image of a black American family as role model might improve things for the rest of us that have to live with them among us. That has nothing to do with zero’s methods and goals and lack of substance and integrity which are completely different subjects, and presents topics that black Americans are not interested in and mostly incapable of understanding. Zero is black and, unwisely, that’s all they know or care about. It is better for the rest of Americans that the image he presents to them NOT fit the typical negative appearance and behavior aspects of black American culture.
