Palin's Lawyer Denies She Lifted Gingrich Article

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been accused of paraphrasing at length from an article co-written by Newt Gingrich when she gave a speech, but her lawyer says proper credit was given to the former House speaker.

Blogger Geoffrey Dunn, who is writing a book about the former Republican vice presidential candidate, made the accusation on the Huffington Post Web site.

Dunn compared Palin's speech introducing conservative talk show host Michael Reagan, son of former President Ronald Reagan, to an Anchorage audience Wednesday to the article urging Republicans to study Reagan, written by Gingrich and Craig Shirley in 2005.

"It is abundantly clear in context, and even in subcontext, that the overview of President Reagan's legacy was attributed to Newt Gingrich," Palin's lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, said.

"Far from 'lifting' or plagiary, this is proper attribution in a political speech," Van Flein said. "The audience was made aware that Mr. Gingrich wrote about President Reagan's legacy, and Gov. Palin attributed her paraphrasing to Mr. Gingrich expressly and did so at the beginning and at the end of the paraphrasing."

Once again, the media is trying to blunt a conservative message by distracting us with trivial accusations. Governor Palin has to respond, and the story switches to her being an accused plagiarist, rather than focusing on her criticism of the current administration.

If they are so concerned about this, they should seek to have Martin Luther King's doctorate revoked as he plagiarized his dissertation.

He also plagiarized the "I have a dream..." speech.

As usual, a double-standard for the left.

Does the blogger include the entire transcript of the speech? What a non-story! Meanwhile, Joe Biden is Vice President.

Or maybe they should talk to the current VP, Neil Kinnock Joe Biden about plagerism?

Dude, stop! To leftwing nutless Dunn, it matters not that the Dems or any other left leaning schmuck “lifts” from others work. It only matters when Conservatives and Repubs do it. Get with the program. ;-)

Dunn at the Huff Post has been the chief perveyor of the “Sarah queen of liars” meme (all his allegations are verifiably false). That has been an epic failure. This is an attempt to get a “Sarah the plagairist” meme going. Just as bogus “ethics violation” filings were designed to place a chill on her actions, this would be designed to place a chill on her words. Every word, sentence and phrase construction would be pored over to catch her out. Mr Dunn and his ilk are really scraping the bottom of the barrell.

Governor Palin has to respond, and the story switches to her being an accused plagiarist, rather than focusing on her criticism of the current administration.
But this is the true test of Sarah Palin, because this strategy of the media to lie about her as a way of distracting from her message is something that will continue and it's the main thing she has to engage.

She has to call them out on this single issue.

In other words, Palin has to make the media the issue. And in fact the media IS the issue. Why do you think Obumma is president today? Because of the lies and distortions of the media. No other reason.

Bingo! It must have been a great speech and an effective attack on Obama/Democrat's policy.

Remember, Palin was the only politician in a 2 year period, who was able to land punches on Obama. She must be destroyed by any means necessary.

This is one more attempt in that battle.

And after mentioning Palin’s extraordinary speech in Anchorage, Byron York dropped a reference to their being a controversy as to whether she had plagiarized Newt’s speech.

He did not mention that it was a false charge, just added the accusation without any context at all.

"RULE 4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules." If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

"RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions."

Great minds think alike; it is not unusual for conservative commentaries on a topic to be similar to one another.
