After Mixed Signals, Sarah Palin May Try to Upstage Newt Gingrich at GOP Dinner
Fox News ^ | Carl Cameron

Organizers of big GOP fundraising dinner still don't know whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will attend, with the event just hours away.

Will she or won't she?

The saga over whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will attend a big GOP fundraising dinner Monday night in Washington to raise money for Republican congressional candidates is unresolved with the event just hours away.

"We don't expect her," said a Republican source familiar with the dinner. "But with (Palin), you never know. She may just show up."

In the spring, the Republican Senate and House panels that host the dinner sent out a splashy press release touting the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate as their keynote speaker at the soiree.

But the Alaska governor's office claims Palin never confirmed her attendance. A few weeks later, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee rescinded their invitation to Palin and booked former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to headline instead.

A senior Republican source suggested that Palin was "miffed" after it was clear she wouldn't be speaking. Palin was then asked if she would like to attend as NRSC Chairman Sen. John Cornyn's guest.

However the source, who spoke to FOX News on the condition of anonymity, said that if the governor did attend, she would be recognized, but not speak.

"We'll say nice things about her," said the source. "But she's so unpredictable. She just thought she could swoop in."

The annual dinner is the major fundraising venue for Republican House and Senate candidates. Former President George W. Bush spoke at previous dinners while he was in office.

As soon as I get some doctor bills paid down, I’ll be donating to SarahPAC. The RNC won’t see a damn dime from me until they get their brain out of their rear.

So now they're portraying her as a selfish camera hog who only wants the spotlight on her?

Sarah. Go home. SCREW THEM. And tell them all to piss off as you step on the plane.

Sarah always has “anonymous” sources dissing her. The sources are too frightened or dishonest to reveal their true identities. She, on the other hand, is up front and says what she means. This tells me a lot about the true character of those involved.

She doesn’t need them as much as they need her. She controls this situation.

Claims, not contends -- little bit of opinion in the piece?

A senior Republican source suggested that Palin was "miffed" after it was clear she wouldn't be speaking. Palin was then asked if she would like to attend as NRSC Chairman Sen. John Cornyn's guest.

Um ... why would Palin be "miffed" that she wouldn't be speaking if she had been touted as the keynote speaker? Or am I to understand from the poorly-written article that Palin is "miffed" because the NRSC booked Mr. Newt after they put out PR announcing Palin, who had not confirmed, which makes no sense whatever?

Carl Cameron once again inserting his negative viewpoint of Sarah, he was thoroughly discredited during the presidential campaign, so why Fox would continue to use him to report on her is beyond me. Unless ...

I love Newt and I love Sarah. They are both smart people and say what you will, they’d be the most credible Republican ticket out there today!!

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Carl Cameron’s “unnamed source” on this story uses similarly insinuating language as his “unnamed source” that slammed Palin’s so-called lack of basic knowledge during her debate preparations. Cameron has zero credibility when it comes to anything he reports about Palin, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see his cohort Bill O’Reilly give him face time again with what is essentially another of Carl’s gossip stories.

Yeah it does sound like a menopause problem,,, on the part of the person commenting anonymously. Sounds like Sarah isn’t being manipulated by the rep beltway crowd. They don’t like that.

Politico's version of the story doesn't jive with this one.

FROM POLITICO: “A great deal of effort has been put into this fundraising event, and Speaker Gingrich has gone above and beyond the call of duty,” said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “It is our hope that Gov. Palin will attend the dinner and be recognized, but we understand if her busy schedule doesn’t permit her to do so.”

So, was Palin invited or not? Sounds to me that the NRCC/NRSC panicked after watching 20,000 people show up for Sarah in Auburn and are now hoping she attends and if she doesn't...well then they can just pass the ball to Politico to portray her as a bumbling tart.

The GOP needs Sarah’s Balls.
Newt needs to make sure he still has his.
Reid would do well to borrow one of Nancy’s.
