Burhan Hassan's family says he was gunned down in Somalia.
Hassan was one of about 20 young men who vanished from the streets of Minneapolis in November, only to reappear as warriors in Somalia.
Abubakar Assadique is the mosque Hassan attended. Yesterday, there were prayers there for Hassan, but there are also allegations from Hassan's family: they say the mosque was responsible for the 17-year-old's decision to go to Somalia. They also say that his death may be connected to his decision to return to Minnesota.
The mosque denies any involvement in any of the young men's decision to go to Somalia.
The FBI is investigating how the young men were recruited.
Hassan's family says that investigation and Hassan's desire to return to Minnesota may have played a role in his death.
The mosque says Sunday's prayer service was for the community and the family. The Hassan family says they have no connection to the mosque.

Minnesota Men Suspected of Joining Somali Terrorist Group

Approximately 20 young Somali-American men between the ages of 17 and 27 - most from the Minneapolis area - have traveled to Somalia to join a terrorist group in the last 18 months, according to U.S. authorities.
The FBI alleges that Al Shabaab (Arabic for “the Youth”), a U.S. designated terrorist group that seeks to overthrow the Somali government, has made an “active and deliberate attempt” to recruit these young men both in person and on the Internet.
On March 31, 2009, Al Shabaab released a propaganda video urging foreigners “to come and live the life of a mujahid.” The video features an English speaking militant named “the American.”
The FBI has expressed concern that the young men may return to the U.S. with their American passports and attempt to carry out an attack on U.S. soil. “The prospect of young men, indoctrinated and radicalized in their own communities…is a perversion of the immigrant story,” FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III said. Other U.S. officials, however, believe they will continue to participate in terrorism activities in Somalia instead.
Many of the missing men attended the Abubaker As-Saddique Islamic Center in Minneapolis. The mosque states on its Web site that it “unequivocally condemns suicide bombing and all acts of indiscriminate violence.” The leaders of the mosque and the mosque itself have not been accused of anything, but the FBI reportedly suspects that classes in the mosque radicalized the young men. The FBI has issued grand jury subpoenas in an effort to find who the teachers of these young men were, what they were taught, and who helped the young men plan their trip to Somalia.

Authorities say young Somali men have disappeared from several different cities in the U.S. over the past two years, including Minneapolis, Boston, and Columbus, Ohio. The FBI has launched investigations into the disappearances in these cities and others across the country.

Nonsense! Here in Maine, these colorful and quaint folks have really livened up our dull scene with Female Circumcision, Polygamy, Tribal Scars, Refusal to obey female schoolteachers, Anti-Christian Sermons at ye olde Mosque, Wife Beating, A whole new approach to Section 8 housing and AfDC, plus whenever my camel is sick, the elders really know their stuff and know how to cure him or cook him. O yeah, one of'em just got a job ... with the county ... taking care of other Somalis!
I think you just don't value diversity!

The tribes of the southern border region, are precisely the refugees we received in Maine, courtesy of Catholic Charities and Governor Baldacci, who thought he could pick up some easy federal dollars, aided and abetted by the State Department.
Described a "farmers," they might be more accurately described as primitive, fanatical when they feel like it Muslim goat, cattle, and camel rustlers with vegetable patches. Yeah, there's some truth to that report, although it goes back to Clinton, and before him to GHWB and the CIA.
The Italians ran Somalia, and damn well, too, until the 1960's when their UN Trust Mandate ran out. Their method depended upon shameless bribery, keeping the natives unarmed, and playing one tribal group off against the others. Mogadishu looked like a damned movie set, with elegant villas, shady wide boulevards, dynamite beaches nearby, and the best restaurants in Africa. All white, cubistic architecture inspired by di Quirico. Lots of trade between Europe and Somalia, lots of hustle and bustle.
The Yanks arrived with independence and immediately cut the legs out from under the Eyetie admin, helping Somalis become the most stuck-up and totally worthless newly independent SOB's on the continent, with an equally worthless airline, ugly flag, and stupid national anthem to match. We then armed them to stop the Ethiopian Commies and their Cuban pals from taking over, and it wasn't long before all inter-tribal hell broke loose. They couldn't run a town, never mind keep the clean water flowing and the electricity on, and Mogadishu descended into the hell it is today.
Been a mess ever since. Bad under Bush, far worse under Clinton, and just a teensie bit better today, I hear, as I haven't been there since '65.
Let's call it Zimbabwe, but without the charm. They did stop the commies from Ethiopia and their Cuban pals, but they then armed themselves with more weapons captured from the Ethiopians and began the interminable civil wars for control, and for their many brands of Islam, aided and abetted by al qaida, the Taliban, and of course the Saudis. Now the Ethiopians are our pals again, and they are back trying to pacify the place ... to no avail. Yeah, we bear a lot of responsibility, but not all. These people should be a colony and probably soon will be under China's thumb, because the CHICOM need the seaports to tranship the vast oil reserves of the Sudan and Uganda, and probably Somalia itself, as soon as they kill off the bad boys, or at least ship'em to Maine or Minnesota, so they can drill. Somalis? Any of them under 70 years of age need 10 years at Boys Town before they are fit company for any civilized outfit.
