Posted on 06/10/2009 6:29:47 PM PDT by Jessica2677

Does anyone know if this is legal? We just got a parking ticket for parking in the grass in our own yard. The ticket says "can not park on grass or unpaved area(even if your own yard). I swear to god this is what the ticket says and its a $50 ticket that doubles to $100 then doubles to $200 Does anyone know anything about this law????

I am constantly amazed at the people on FR who think they are conservatives but support laws that tell other people what they can do with their own property. Parking on your lawn is NOT a violation of anything but other people's ideas of what "looks right", and the codes that prevent people from parking on their own property are unconstitutional. Too bad so many FReepers are really liberals at heart, because if you support this type of zoning laws or ordinances you are indeed a liberal. Well, this type of law has been building and growing into other laws that are now biting us all in the a** and it will get worse.

Laws that prevent owners from using their property was just the start, other laws branched off from that, if they can tell you what to do with property held in fee simple they can tell you what to do about anything, and now it is going to include what you eat, how you eat, how much you exercise etc. Just look at Bozo's new agenda for keeping people healthy.

People who love to restrict others rights so they won't have to look at a car on the lawn are directly responsible for the mess we are in today but they still brag about turning people in for parking on their lawn and think somehow they are righteous!

Have fun living in the communist world Bozo is creating and that you support in many ways. The ones I am talking about know who they are and they will be the ones responding to my comments.

Elections do have consequences. The good news might be this full-court press by code enforcement will get enough people riled to finally elect a property-rights slate.

And if you really want to get steamed, check out Subsection 13, Housing and Property Standards, especially the Anti-litter provisions. I'll bet a flock of flamingos would be considered litter under definition 13-261(d)(3) and earn you a 13-266 notice to remove.

I agree with a lot of posters, what the heck are you doing parking on the grass? I don’t care if it’s yours or Yankee Stadium. It’s a trailer trash habit that just devalues your home and the community.

And I agree with you 100%.

I go through great pains to try to maintain my lawn and the flower bed in front of my house. However, my next door neighbors park their pickup trucks and their cars on their front yard. That is infuriating to me, and that also helps to bring down the property values in the neighborhood. Those neighbors don't actually try to maintain their grass and I try to separate my front yard from theirs by growing tall plants between our properties so that theirs isn't visible from my yard or from the main street in our neighborhood.

They are not bad neighbors, but I wish they would be more caring about the whole neighborhood.

I hope you are not confusing my posting of the relevant code with supporting it. I’m in Florida so I had nothing to do with establishing it or voting in the idiots who did.

"We are in Maryland. Prince George’s County"

Hmmm! Since you are in the third ring of hades, I thought all grass would be burning anyway.

How's your car?

Must be a local law - wish we had it here - maybe I could finally persuade my wife to stop driving across the lawn as a shortcut.......

I totally agree. I have read some of the post and I feel that if I want to paint my house pink with purple polk-a-dots I should be able to (just like if I want to park my car in the front yard). I could see if it was a broken down hunk of junk but its not.

Rush Limbaugh says EVERYBODY parks their cars on their front lawns in Rio Linda.

Maybe you should move to Rio Linda.

But you see in Rio Linda, they would not be parked on the grass. They would be parked on the sand!!!

“No one parks on their lawns in my neighborhood.”

We own a 6500 sq ft home on 5+ acres. We sometimes have gatherings and park cars on the grass. I would press trespassing charges on any cop who tried to come onto the property and ticket the cars.

Here in Tampa it’s a big no-no.

I too live in Tampa (actually, in the Town & Country area), and I like the ordinance that prohibits parking on front yards. However, it seems that the ordinance is not being enforced and I see more and more cars and pickups parked on front lawns. I've even seen RVs parked regularly parked in front yards.

Oh stop complaining. You wanna hear problems? I got problems!

I found out my *gasp* TRASH cans were stored in an area that is...........EEEEEEEEEEEEK! VISIBLE FROM THE STREET!

This, after “parking” them there for many many years.

And nope, I don’t live in one of those fancy schmancy gated communities with rules & regs...on PURPOSE.

(I’m only kidding about your complaining...you have every right to be mad...)

what does it matter its my yard

There are a lot of things you can't do in your yard. These laws were set up by the people who live in the area, probably long before you moved in. If people want to change the laws, they can. But I can't see most people being happy with cars parked on the lawn instead of the driveway. But then again, maybe I'm wrong.

Our small town sweeps the streets on Mondays, and tickets $35.00 if we are parked in the street when they come by.

So we park one car on the yard. The neighbor kid asked why we park in the yard. I said “I didn’t. I parked on the roof and it fell off”. You should have seen his face!

There is no snow where that law was about not parking on the street. It is supposed to discourage late night parties.

Yeah! Like on the back of my You Were Naughty Notice from the city....I found out that you may also NOT have a Human Sign within 200 feet of your building.

Human. Sign.

???
