WASHINGTON — As the health care debate heats up, the American Medical Association is letting Congress know that it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan, which President Obama and many other Democrats see as an essential element of legislation to remake the health care system.

Alternate headline:

"AMA resuscitates itself"

They seem to have finally "come to".

I see in the article above that the New York Slimes is so clever and careful to refer to the proposed health entitlement as "the government-sponsored insurance plan".

Looks like some freepers on this thread have unwittingly gone along with this silky-smooth description by repeating it.

Why not call this poison pill what it really is.....Socialized Medicine or Forced National Health Care.

Sheesh!

WHOA. HUGE news. The AMA had been generally supportive and otherwise staying on the sidelines.

AMA is a Leftist organization who supports abortion, and every other leftist idea of "medicine."

Conservative doctors long ago left this group and the ones who stayed either didn't care one way or another or were in line with the leftist thinking.

All you need to do to find "proof" in what I say, is go to the leftist candidates and see just how much is donated to them and their pet PACs by the AMA.

AMA really supports doctors the way that AARP really is on the side of the elderly.

Maybe the doctors should strike. That seems to work for the unions and it would get congress’s attention, and might even wake up the emperor with no clothes.

It’s all socialized medicine that is being contemplated The Republicans are sponsoring socialized medicine. The “Private Insurer” with its bureaucracies and executive costs is just another layer of costs in this socialized medicine bill. They want you to think it is not “socialized” because they want to keep their cut and increase their cut, so they play on terms like “private.” They are partners with the government in this. The Republicans that I hear are not objecting to socialized medicine, but that they want to keep the unneeded costs of executives, bureaucracies, etc. of the insurers in the socialized medicine framework.

The main thing for the AMA is to protect the doctors pay, by controlling the number of medical schools and the number of students. If you want better and more affordable medicine, triple the number of doc’s. Competition is a good thing!!!

That is why Obama is now getting to the issue of pay. Its not wallstreet pay its the Health Industry pay. You watch how the will frame this issue.

We need Gov health care due to Insurance company and doctor greed.

Not that it would solve ALL our problems, but it would solve about half of them.

I would get a second opinion.

I don’t think he will. I never thought he was sincere about the “government option”. Most of them are in the pockets of the insurers.

Too little, too late from this bunch as many if not most supported His Majesty - at least financially.

If the AMA doctors will not play ball, 0 will just have doctors from off shore brought in to man his clinics.

Good! Now they should mention that most Dr’s who are within 10 years of retirement just might do it early. Since there aren’t enough Doctors already to cover an extra 40 million having even fewer ought to really be good.

No need to look "off shore" for these folk - plenty are already here - either in HMOs or at teaching hospitals seeing patients.

Look up docs in your yellow pages and check out the number of foreign ones.

I once had a doctor bring in an intern to "assist" in his examination. The doctor actually left the room and let the intern proceed. Interestingly enough, I was totally unable to understand the guy (either PAK or other)so that the doctor had to "take over" up on his return.

I felt that I should have only been charged 1/2 for visit as the doc had intended letting his "help" do the office visit for him, of course, no such luck!

The leadership of the AMA may have make prochoice noises from time to time, but I'd like you to show me how they are a PAC for the left. I don't think you can, which is why you challenged me to do your research for you.

What they are is WEAK. Weak in numbers and in clout. They supported the GOP, and the GOP won't ever stand up for a constituency if it means they won't get approval and invitations to DC cocktail parties. Even Newt hung private medicine out to dry--making believe that some penny ante fraud was at the hear of increased medical expense. They can't save you from Obamacare.
