An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer and Tucson resident was killed in a plane crash in Nebraska Thursday.

Officer Allen Peterson, 51, was piloting the aircraft when it crashed in Arthur County. The cause is under investigation.

The crash was reported at 4 p.m. after a property owner discovered the wreckage and called the Arthur County Sheriff’s Office.

Peterson was the sole occupant of the plane, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. He was visiting family in Minnesota and was returning to Arizona at the time. “Officer Allen Peterson served the department and the citizen’s of Arizona with dignity and honor,” said Lt. Daniel Lugo, commander of the DPS Highway Patrol Bureau District Eight. “Allen will be remembered by all of his peers as a selfless hero with a passion for flying and helping others. He will be missed but not forgotten.” Peterson was a 24-year veteran of DPS.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will conduct the crash investigation.

Of course we would. God rest his soul and God give his family
the strength and comfort they will need to get through the
rest of life without this wonderful man in it.

The Dragonfly went down in Arthur, Nebraska according to that page. It was one of two fatal crash entries for the day from here (http://www.faa.gov/data_research/accident_incident/preliminary_data/) and the only one that fit the story that was posted.
