We watched Leno every night and this was the second joke he did with Bristol in it and the last. The first one got a very cool response and he reacted accordingly. When he made this one he also didn’t get a big response from the audience. He actually got quite a few groans, and again responded sheepishly like who knew he had stepped over the line bringing a child of a candidate into the mix.

Leno had a much more middle American audience. When he went into the audience there were lots of people from the midwest and the south visiting LA in the audience. The audience reaction to Letterman was maybe as depressing as the crappy joke.

"It may be a shot at Edwards, but it was also a shot at the Palin family. "

Did I like the joke? No. Was it a shot at the Palin family? I didn't think it was when I heard the joke when it was broadcast, although I did make note of it - and I certainly could understand how others could take offense.

But, I don't think that there's any comparison between what Leno said and what Letterman said. If Leno offended, it wasn't intentional. He just not a mean-spirited comic. Letterman's shtick, OTH, was intentional AND he was targeting Willow, regardless of later protestation to the contrary.

"I’m not convinced the problem is the comedians. The audience is generally just as obnoxious. Where there is demand, there will be supply."

do you really think the audience really laughs at all those jokes? They don't have a laugh track machine and an applause board for nothing you know.

Why do you think they very seldom pan the audience when Leno or any of those other late night insulters do their script?

The problem isn't just the comedians, it's the writers that feed them their material as well. But the comedians are also more than willing to read it and add their style to it, which makes them full party and just as responsible for it.

I don't find that "joke" acceptable either. Difference is, there was so much snark flying around back then that I didn't even hear about that one. It is appalling how they have treated Palin's entire family.

You noticed how several times Letterman also implied that Todd Palin is stupid, didn't you? Not in so many words, but in his "wink and nod" sort of manner. One day somebody's going to punch him in his cynical mouth and he'll deserve it.

Precisely...And now we will see how the "invisible hand" will react. I, for one, will be striving to keep my money out of the hands of Lefterman's SeeBS advertisers, whenever possible.

Exactly. Free speech has to apply to everyone, not just lefting moonbats.

Had a Republican said any of these jokes, it would be front page headlines and debate for at least a week.

Leno has also made a living out of poking fun at the Clintons, Lewinsky, Edwards, GWB, Biden, Pelosi, Geitner, Dashle, Cheney, Sharpton, JJackson etal. He is an equal opportunity jokester. He never got to OBama, but I bet in September you will start to see some joke about the condition of the Country.

18 is the age of consent in most states, I don’t know where you got the info about the Western World, we aren’t concerned about the rest of the world, only the States.

To Corin Stormhands:

Feel better now that you’ve defended Letterman?

You’re sick. Go back to DailyKos.

Leno is certainly more subtle, but the point is still visible. If he didn’t mean to take a shot at the Palin family, he could have used a long, long list of Holliweird females much more fitting for the role.

"He is an equal opportunity jokester."

Oh no he isn't. I watched his show specifically to take note of just how much of an equal opportunity joker he was. I used to think that he was, but not anymore.

Any jokes he does pointed at Democrats are either very mellow, or they avoid the hot button issues they are involved in completely.

His "jokes" toward Republican Politicians/ Bush were 10 times more frequent, and followed the same basic script all the others were using. It was bash Bush, bash Republicans every day for the entire election cycle.

I turned him off as a result. He's no different than all those other loosers, and I'm glad he's gone.

He used to be a good comedian, but I guess when you are surrounded by leftwing moonbats for so many years, it eventually rubs off on you. Plus it's easier to not buck the system.

I know a lot of stuff. And tend to look at the big picture, not some provincial view.

Anyway only 8 US States have an AoC of 18 (I had to look that up). "That's not a majority"

In 32 states it's 16 "That's a majority!"

"I guess I'm just trying to be devil's advocate or something"

Yea, like that is really what is needed right now. Someone attempting a misdirection and confusing the issue. Way to go, keep up the good work, and let the attacks on conservatives and thier family continue. Fool.

“The best thing that can happen to these disgusting late night insult shows if for them to be replaced by an infomercial.”

So true. The days of Carson and Paar are over. The milieu has well past its peak. Unfortunately, neither of those men could make it in show biz today, they weren’t vulgar or snarky enough. Now all we have is snotty, condescending arrogance from purported ‘comedians.’

One thing that Letterman also said, not talked about much,
he said you could see it in the highlights clip of the Yankees game. Not only was she raped during 7th inning stretch but also taped for later viewing. He is a disgrace and the libs continue to defend the indefensible.

I’m no fan of Leno either. Both treated Palin abusively.

As obnoxious as it is it does not even come within magnitudes of approaching what Letterman did.
