Planned Parenthood to Put Center Near Eastern Washington Elementary School

Pasco, WA (LifeNews.com) -- Planned Parenthood is coming under fire for plans to put a new center near an elementary school in eastern Washington state. Planned Parenthood of Central Washington is looking at a new center in Pasco, that would open up next to Mark Twain Elementary School.

The center won't do abortions, but will make abortion referrals and could begin doing abortions sometime down the road.

The idea that the pro-abortion group would put a center next to the school irks Deeana Hoyt, who operates a day care nearby.

"To put such a highly volatile business right next to an elementary school," she told the News Tribune newspaper. "I'm concerned about the impact it's going to have on the community."

The Planned Parenthood center would dispense birth control and perform legitimate medical services, but Gina Popovich, public affairs director for PPCW, tells the newspaper that abortions won't be done yet.

"That's not in our plans right now," she said. "We have (abortion) services in Kennewick, so we just don't feel like the community is needing those kind of services."

Hoyt says she thinks abortions will eventually occur and she called having the Planned Parenthood center near the school a "detrimental thing" and "a moral weight on the community."

"We just do not want that kind of business right here, so close to our children," she added. "I just think we need to represent the community ... because this is a really nice community here. I really love where I live."

Popovich complained about needing to travel two hours from Pasco to Kennewick, which leads some to believe abortions will make their way there eventually.

Because the current zoning setup doesn't allow for a Planned Parenthood, Pasco Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on its request for a special permit next Thursday.

ACTION: Ask the Pasco Planning Commission to deny the Planned Parenthood permit. Contact it at communitydevelopment@pasco-wa.gov or by mailing comments to 525 N. Third Ave., Pasco, WA 99301.

This is not the first time I’ve heard of this. Any other anecdotes of clinics near elementary schools?

One would think being close to middle or high schools would be preferred.

Heavy Hispanic population there - Sanger would be proud that PP will be “eliminating” more brown babies.

“Popovich complained about needing to travel two hours from Pasco to Kennewick, which leads some to believe abortions will make their way there eventually.”

I live in Kennewick, we are 2 miles from Pasco, not 2 hours, cross a bridge over the Columbia river and you can be anywhere in either town in 15 minutes. Popovich must NOT have a car, but you could walk it in less than 2 hours.

Since the DUmmies are known to lurk on the boards and pick up quotables, here's one for their edification;

"Since abortuaries are recognized as being responsible for the deaths of many more children than guns ever were, they should be forced to stay 1000 yards away from schools, churches, or anyplace civilized people congregate".

Howzat?!

First of all let me thank you for posting this. I had not heard of this happening.

Secondly Popovich doesn't know what she is talking about. Two hours from Pasco to Kennewick. Pasco is just across the bridge from Kennewick. A hop skip and a jump.

I am trying to figure out where they plan on putting it. I don't know of any land available near Mark Twain, so I am pretty sure it won't be a new building. They will either put it in the old vacated Century 21 building or the old vacated K-Mart/Buttreys Food building.

I will put my 2 cents worth in at the City Council, but it won't do any good. They are bringing in all the business they can. They just gave an asphalt company a permit despite all the complaints from homeowners with $400,000 dollar homes in the area where they plan on putting it.

This is 12 miles from me.

FYI, Catholic parish in Pasco is a good one, predominately Hispanic, reverent and with plenty of attention to Blessed Virgin Mary. Our girl's godmother is one of them. She prefers to not attend the Mass in my town, too "new fangled". Neither do I, attending the Latin Mass in Kennewick instead. The Kennewick PP abortuary is a center of evil in southeastern WA state, probably one of Satan's greatest achievements in the area.

Yes, I am in my mid 50s and have been riding bikes between the two for 40 years. You can kayak across the Columbia in about 10 minutes.

Popovich must ride Ben Franklin Transport - that totally underutilized and unneeded public transport system we are forced to support......

Thanks for the info. The left (especially in more liberal states like Washington) seems to be concentrating their efforts on the more conservative areas.

Go pray in front of this place. Maybe you can block the building event. Were there any city hearings or permit hearings?

Where were the pro-lifers?
