I know this was posted way back, but given what's going on right now, I thought I would post it again.
Please- for any who have not seen this, please take a few minutes to view it.
It helps when posters at least give us a little hint of what is at the link.
Thanks! I bookmarked that and forgot it.
Now I have something to do !!! Seriously though....thanks!
The trailer says “a rogue enemy can tell America: if you do this, we will launch”. That is not a problem in the new American of Hope and Change. Because a new strategy—SURRENDER—has been added to our arsenal. with this new strategy, Obama has total flexibility to defuse any potential international situation and avoid an attack.
Thank you for posting this link. I have not seen this before.
The possibility of this happening grows stronger every day. I think it will be an EMP. It would completely cripple our country.
There are several sites on the net that discuss this issue. Worth a search for more information about what could be our new reality.
My love of classic cars pays off again . . . no electronics!
I have a question. If an EMP goes off, will crank radios and battery powered appliances still work?

Good thinking!! Now if you can store some gasoline to put in it, you will have it made.
netmilsmom,
Here are two sites that discuss EMPs. Essentially, equipment must be protected. Hope this helps.

“So how do we protect our equipment? There is no definitive answer, as the results of testing for EMP has not been released to the general public. An EMP is both an electric field and a perpendicular magnetic field. The electric field is what does the damage and is measured in volts per meter (V/m). We can infer and extrapolate, but there are no guarantees, as an EMP pulse can only last 1/100th of a second but project 50,000 to 100,000 volts per meter (V/m). [Ikstrums, Sept. 2, 2005.]
There are two sorts of damage that can occur as a result of an EMP pulse. The first type of damage is that caused directly to exposed transistors, diodes, and circuit boards in radios, transmitters, ignition circuits in vehicles, solar panel controllers, etc. An EMP pulse travels in a straight line, so protection is needed from an EMP from the sides and the top except if the object to be protected is sitting on a conductive surface.
The second is through the accumulation of an overload of electricity on a long line, such as a power line.”
Faraday cages can be built to totally enclose sensitive equipment not in use. In general, the equipment is placed in a metal or foil covered box, insulated on the inside, and preferably grounded.

WOW! Thanks so much!
We have a solar powered lantern and a crank radio that would be mighty nice to have in the event of an EMP.
I’m going to your link right now!
Here is another good site that discusses EMPs. I found it in my bookmarks.

Intelligence from Iran has reported that this would be the easiest way to take us out.
So, I have a rainbarrel (actually two but that’s a long story), I’m going to protect my crank radio and solar lantern in a grounded box, and put a chain to dangle from my DH’s truck. I may actually do the same with my camper to keep that safe.
Quick and easy. If we don’t have an EMP, what’s the harm?
Well what if it isn’t the whole US?
What if it’s my area, near Dearborn where the streetsigns are in Arabic? Where going to the Arab/American International Festival means getting the best Shawarma you have ever eaten served by ladies in burkas amongst the Hamas and Hezbollah flags.
In my area, the Chaldean Catholic area of MI, we are actually target #1. The Chaldeans know this. I’ll prepare for the worst as best I can. An EMP pulse in our area leaves me with no water, no radio, no way out and guarding my house with the only weapon we own that I can lift, my dad’s little 22 for a couple hours to a couple days.
A couple chains and a metal box will do me well.
Live in country . . . . got gas! (lots of it)
Maybe I’ll wrap my house in tin foil just to be safe !!!!
Just joking, but nice to know that!
