[Please note the second paragraph in article] Karl Marx was a vehement racist and anti-Semite (yes, even though both his grandfathers were rabbis!) This particular quote is not an aberration but very typical of both his and Engel's thoughts.

Great summary. Thanks for posting this Correspondence as well.
You can better judge motivations and beliefs behind the actions of historical figures.
Hussein could via live CNN/MSNBC coverage in Tehran with Akmadimijad (spelling??) - pres the button to launch nukes to wipe Israel off the map.
Liberal American Jews would blame Bush while MSNBC/CNN anchors would be breathless at Obama’s bold “initiative.” Jimmy Carter would be interviewed claiming that now there could finally be peace in the Middle East.
without the scrubbing from the left
99.999% of pre-1900 personal correspondence is horrifically racist by modern standards.
Rule #1 when dealing with people who want to control ANY group of people. They themselves are flaming racists.
What they “mean” when they say that they want equality is that they want equality for “Their chosen”. The rest are merely niggers, Jews, Jew-like etc.
Rule #2 when they give rights to the “lower classes” it means that they are to be controlled, kept separate, educated only for (specific - non desired jobs), and never given full rights and privileges.
Speaking of CNN, I just saw Christiane Amanpour (her father’s name was Mohammed, I kid you not!) in her Islamic costume spouting her usual excuses for Islamofascism. I don’t even take MSNBC seriously enough to listen to their never-ending DNC propaganda. By the way, if you’d like an article I posted on FR about Jimmy Carter’s anti-Semitism, let me know.
Racism, in the modern meaning, only really began in the 19th century. But so did the anti-slavery and democratic movements in Europe and America.
It’s sort of like those blacks who rush to buy all those T-shirts featuring the racist Che.
Marx may have been a self-hating anti-Semite, but the effect of his works was quite profoundly Jewish. If you look at the membership of the Bolsheviks, their central committee consisted of 90 per cent plus Jewish members. Lenin and a host of other key early Soviet officials were Jewish. I don’t really buy the anti-Semitic angle of the article.
“How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.” - Ronald Reagan
True, but Joe Stalin was a rabid anti-semite, probably the main reason for his rivalry with Trotsky. To a large degree, Adolf Hitler solved Stalin’s “Jewish Problem” during the first part of Operation Barbarossa.
I just read a biography by the editor of the Stalin archives. Certainly, starting after WWII, Stalin moved towards anti-semitism and, at the time of his death, was seeking to exterminate jews (I think it was called the Doctor’s Plot”). However, I think that most of his career he worked with other jews in the government without any noticeable fights. He often played different factions against each other, but I don’t think that you can find serious, documented anti-Semitism until later in his career.
He certainly had many Jews that he dealt with on a regular basis in his government for a long part of his time in office. And, of course, he had to get along with Lenin and the rest in order to get into the position that he had.
Exactly. I wonder how many of them who buy those Che T-shirts really know Guevara was a pathological murderer. He even had a young boy disciple of his shot for stealing a little food. He was so bad that even Castro wanted to get him out of Cuba. This “revolutionary chic” trend has been based on total ignorance of the historical record. (and ignorance is the kindest motive that be ascribed to it!)
I have several good books by Russians who write convincingly that Stalin from 1948 to his death in 1953 was indeed planning a holocaust for the Jews. When he died Beria immediately terminated such plans. And, by the way, he at the same time released Molotov’s Jewish wife from her internment camp. Stalin’s anti-Semitism wasn’t the old garden variety Russian anti-Semitism. It was definitely of the the genocidal sort. If you guys would like the titles of some of these books I’d be happy to provide them. It’s also a paradox that all Stalin’s formal education was from the Orthodox seminary in Tiflis. Good thing he never was ordained to holy orders in the Russian Orthodox Chuch!
You’re right about so many Bolsheviks being Jewish - Kamenev, Zinoviev, Kagonovich, Rykov, etc. But Lenin was not Jewish and was baptized in the Orthodox Church. However, his maternal grandfather (Blank) was a Jew who converted to Christianity.
Stalin knew exactly when Hitler would attack, yet he left the front virtually defenseless. Why? Because Western Russia and Ukraine were where most of the Jews lived. Stalin knew what Hitler’s plans for them were. So why not let Hitler do Stalin’s dirty work for him, before eventually overcoming the Nazis with their superior numbers, and leaving the Soviet Union virtually “Judenfrei” afterwards.
