Dante is weeping in his grave, humbled that his description of Hell has been bested. What on earth is admirable about any of this? I kept waiting for the author to make some point about Redneck blight or something similar only to get to the end and realize that it wasn’t a negative piece. Color me disgusted.

And don't ignore the fact that the author seemed to be hell bent on showing the seedier side of the gathering, and writing with a tone that is definitely snarky at times.

Don't kid yourself. The author didn't go nearly far enough. A snarky tone was not called for here. Outright condemnation would have been fitting, if not castigation.

God bless you Southerners! The Bible Belt and the Corn Belt, that’s the real America! There are a few voices in the wilderness out here in Kalifornia, and more than a few pissed off people. All my non-political friends have become political. They are genuinely concerned about where this country is headed.
