We are writing in response to your recent communication which objects to the placement of advertising on David Letterman. We appreciate your concern and thank you for taking the time to contact us. While we do not "sponsor" television shows, we do contract for commercial time months in advance for those programs which we feel effectively reach our consumers. Mars knows chocolate sales are nothing to snicker at. The company makes such worldwide favorites as M&M's, Snickers, and the Mars bar. Its other confections include 3 Musketeers, Dove, Milky Way, Skittles, Twix, and Starburst sweets; Combos and Kudos snacks; Uncle Ben's rice; and pet food under the names Pedigree, Sheba, and Whiskas. Mars also provides office beverage services and makes drink vending equipment. The Mars family (including siblings and retired company CEO Forrest Mars Jr., chairman John Franklyn Mars, and VP Jacqueline Badger Mars) owns the highly secretive firm, making the family one of the richest in the US. In 2008 the company acquired the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company.

I can tell you I called 15 advertisers over the span of last week starting on the 9th. People at Lincoln/Mercury were very nice as was Mazda and both said they would bring it to ad departments' attention.
The MET LIFE woman was particularly snarky with me when I suggested they move their ads. She sighed loudly and asked if this was about Palin and then said" not everyone feels the way you do you know".

Thanks. I already got that. I’m waiting to hear that they’ve cancelled their support for Letterman.
