Once there was a poor farmer who wanted to become fabulously rich in the diamond trade. He deserted his farmland and traveled the world looking for diamonds until he was too old to look anymore. He returned home penniless, only to discover that the fields around his home were thick with flawless diamonds as big as your fist.
The poor guys fortune had been right under his nose, but he had wasted his whole life looking everywhere but in his own backyard.
That old story came back to me a few weeks ago when I met Marco Rubio. Hes the 38-year old former speaker of the Florida House of Representatives running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez next year. Rubio is the most impressive conservative leader I have met in a long time, a natural leader with an inspiring personal story and an even more inspiring vision for Florida and America.
He is at once a principled conservative and an accomplished legislator with a proven record of building broad coalitions to champion fiscal discipline, economic growth, and the American values of family, faith, and freedom.

38 years old? Come on. Is this serious?
Anyone under 50 shouldn’t even be considered. Whatever happened to electing the wise in this country?
If you ask me, Obama is a young punk who never should have been considered for the nomination. But our country has become so hung-up on youth, and look where we are.
If we here @ Free Republic don’t support candidates in the mold of Marc Rubio, we will have no reason to complain when the likes of Charlie Christ are elected. What in blue blazes are leaders like Sen Minority Mitch McConnell thinking? If there is to be change in party thinking, it is now or never. If we lose the 2010 election, the republican party will cease to exist along with the United States. It’s just that serious.
And our current old men are doing such a fantastic job, right?
My 17 year old grandson could do a better job.
We need to start campaigning for him NOW. NO MORE CRIST.
And he’s not gay.
Are you the other candidate Dr. Thorne???
Take a look at this St Petersburg Times article regarding auto related tax increases recently signed into law by Governore Crist.
A few weeks before Crist signed these tax increases into law he signed a pledge that he would not add or increase taxes.
This is after he made the same pledge while running for governor.
Cost Of Driving In Florida To Go Up
By Bill Varian, Staff Writer, Tuesday, June 16, 2009
The cost of getting a driver's license, car registration and vehicle title is about to get a lot more expensive.
Jacking up the cost of putting a vehicle on the road is one of the steps the Florida Legislature took to balance this year's budget as tax receipts plummeted. Little of the money stays local even though local property taxes subsidize the cost of a driver's license if you get it at the county Tax Collector's Office instead of the state Department of Motor Vehicles. The increases take effect Sept. 1. If you're due for license or registration renewal after that, consider getting it done early.
Here's a look at the price hikes
Renewing driver's license:
Before: $20
After: $48
Percent increase: 140%
Delinquent fee
Before: $1
After: $15
Percent increase: 1400%
Replace license
Before: $10
After: $25 Percent increase: 150%
Registration renewal
Vehicles under 2,500 lbs For example: Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris, Mazda Miata and Hyundai Accent

After: $46.65
Percent increase: 66%
Vehicles 2,500 to 3,499 lbs For example: Nissan Altima, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, Ford Taurus, Chevy Malibu and Honda Accord
Before: $36.10
After: $57.65
Percent increase: 60%
Vehicles over 3,500 lbs For example: Chevy Silverado, Chevy Impala, Ford Explorer, Dodge Charger, Nissan Maxima, Toyota 4Runner
Before: $46.10
After: $71.15
Percent change: 54%

After: $403.90
Percent change: 110%
Original title (transfer from out of state) For example: Honda Civic
Total title and registration, including initial registration fee
Before: $161.85
After: $351.40
Percent change: 117%
Go get ‘em, Rubio!
Charlie Crist IS JUST LIKE OBAMA. He’s ruining Florida.
Great. Leave the driving to Crist. Well, he married a millionaire who doesn’t care that he’s gay so that’s pocket change to him.
Are you asking if I’m Charlie Crist? Are you suggesting that he’s gay? I had no idea.
This senior citizen will be voting for Rubio........
This senior citizen will be voting for Rubio.............
Wise? Who’s “wise”? The gay RINO Crist? (53) Cause that’s who Rubio’s opponent is.
I categorically reject your assertion that every Senator should be an old man. That chamber is WAY too old already. I’d like to see a whole bunch of conservatives in their 30’s elected. 30 BTW is the minimum age under the constitution for the Senate.
“What in blue blazes are leaders like Sen Minority Mitch McConnell thinking?”
That Crist is popular and likely to win the GE. That’s all the leadership and NRSC cares about.
Thing is Rubio would win the GE too. The rat field is weak (ironically scared off by Crist).
