“No, Genesis is not literally true. The creation accounts have been accepted as allegory by all but a small minority of adherents. That which you call creation science is nothing more than a collection of disjointed anecdotes that serve as rationalization for the truth of Genesis.” [excerpt]
Christ believed in the literal truth of Genesis and the Creation.

II Chronicles 4:2 reads, “Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.” If the diameter was ten, then the circumference should have been 31.4 cubits, right?

From this, people say God thinks pi is equal to 3.

But let’s look deeper into the Bible. 1 Kings 7:26 says the molten sea was a handbreadth in thickness. We know the diameter of the sea from outer rim to outer rim was 10 cubits. But now, let’s measure the circumference of the sea along the inner edge, subtracting the thickness of the sea (one handbreadth on each side, or about 4 inches on each side).

We know the outside diameter of the sea is 10 cubits; what is the inside diameter? The inside diameter = circumference / pi or 30 / 3.1415927, which is 9.5493 cubits. In other words, the diameter of the sea less two handbreadths is 9.5493 cubits. Now we have the proper dimensions for the inside rim of the sea, 30 cubits around, 9.5493 across. Now what is the Biblical value of pi? It is 30 / 9.5493, or 3.1415. And what is the Greek value of pi? Yep, 3.1415.

That’s why the lip makes a difference.

“But now, let’s measure the circumference of the sea along the inner edge...”

That’s a real stretch—can you imagine how difficult it would be to hold a tape measure in place to measure an INSIDE circumference?

I have no doubt that the value of pi has not changed since this passage was written. However, the passage is significant in that it refutes the literal inerrancy of the physical accounts of the Bible, a concept to which many posters here adhere.
