Look at Leonard Little of the St. Louis Rams - killed a woman while DWI, served either 60 or 90 days max in prison.

The unusually speedy end to the case came at the urging of the Reyes family, which wanted to resolve the matter to avoid further emotional trauma.
My sympathies go out to the Reyes family and I feel they have done the right thing. Incarcerating Stallworth for 5, 10 or 20 years does not accomplish a thing and it cannot undo a tragic accident of which he was the cause of. Stallworth will have to live the rest of his life with this on his conscience......
I would rather suffer the loss of a loved one due to this type of incident than live with the knowledge that I was responsible for it......

Another point should be mentioned. The exact location on the causeway where the accident occurred is wide open eight lanes, four each way. The victim was not crossing in a crosswalk but dashing across lanes to a bus stop. Stallworth’s culpability depends on the alcohol level in his bloodstream and the probable fact that he was traveling above the speed limit. Had either one of those factors not been in play, the man’s presence in the middle of a highway arguably would have shifted the blame from the driver to the deceased.
I think Stallworth had a stronger hand in a potential trial than people generally realize, but he probably decided to take this deal in order to put the whole thing behind him.

” Incarcerating Stallworth for 5, 10 or 20 years does not accomplish a thing...”
One could argue that it would prevent Stallworth from killing anyone else, including a member of your family or mine, while driving fast and drunk. One could argue that it would quite simply provide an appropriate punishment and a deterrent to others.

Hmm, end the case to stop further emotional trauma...
Cha-Ching!
Remember folks, if a rich man kills you, he’ll probably be able to pay your entire worth out of pocket.

I didn't see a /sarc tag so you must be serious. How do you equate the planned systematic murder of innocent citizens to an accidental death? COME ON!

a deterrent to others.
The anti-alcohol fascist organization known as MADD has been in existence since 1980 and has lobbyists in Washington as we speak attempting to re-enact prohibition via the banning of alcohol.
Stop with the lame excuse of trying to "Send a Message....." The message has been out there for over 20 years........
