The demographics are there, as is the mood/morale high-ground, but without arms or support from the military these protests will simply burn out as fear is reinforced.
Sadly, Obama and his ilk would just as likely return the country to the mullahs as see the people off the yoke. He makes Carter look like an amateur. A few well placed words from the President could make all of the above happen. The pressure is on and as has been stated this is a fight for existence for the mullahs. Without military support, including violence against the Basiji, who are fairly well organized and motivated for violence. If the RG stands down or turns in favor of the people it would also mean the end, although I think the rumors of RG moving toward the people are far-fetched.
The kids who are getting attacked weren’t even alive in 1979. They are fighting against the Iranians are responsible for 1979. We shouldn’t trust Mousavi and the mullahs, but the protesters are trying to make the best of an impossible situation and deserve our support.
This WOULD SUCCEED IF we had a strong leader intent on opposing terror regimes. THIS is the opportunity that we’ve been waiting for, and unfortunately, we know have a very laissez-faire foreign policy president.
The international community should be setting up support funds for these individuals. They should be sending ships and planes nearby to counter all the jamming Iran’s government is doing. Russia would crow about that, but so what?
Unfortunately, this rebellion will be put down. The IRGC is way too strong and in control right now. IF only our Western democracies would get involved in Iran instead of throwing paperwork at them.

I hear you, and Iran is becoming more urban. However...
I believe a lot of dissent is a small set of english-speaking, non-muslims, opposing the "desert religion" - while the great majority of the folks are shiite and the country is becoming more muslim all the time. The don't want westernization.
It's a tough thing to measure, but I do know that we've been waiting on these mullah-haters since 1979 to no avail. If their numbers and their passion are there, we haven't seen it.
And, no a hundred thousand protesters is still nothing compared to the mullahs power.
A point I forgot to mention:
Even if there is hope for internal revolution, it can come too late given the missiles and nuclear payloads. I think their time is almost up.

The Iran-Iraq war was the price for 1979. And Iranians have lost more through the Revolution than the US. Also considering that it was the US President Carter who was essential in bringing down the Shah, it's the 'rats and the Western leftists who owe us and Iranians a price.
It is a ripe situation for regime change in Iran, but Obama thinks he shouldn’t “interfere”.
At least French Pres. Sarkozy spoke up... SOMEONE from the so-called free world. Reagan and Thatcher would’ve at least given verbal support to the protesters. The 0bamidiot can’t even do that. “Meddling,” you know.
