Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) has acknowledged an extramarital affair with a campaign staffer in a statement released by his office. "I deeply regret and am very sorry for my actions," said Ensign. He is expected to announce the affair at a press conference at 6:30 pm tonight. The affair, which was with a woman who worked for both Ensign's re-election campaign and his Battle Born leadership political action committee, began in December 2007 and ended in August 2008. Ensign's wife, Darlene, said that the couple's "marriage has become stronger" and added: "I love my husband."

“What exactly will “purging” him acomplish?”

If we are going to be the party of conservative family values, a traditional Republican base, then our representatives have to follow traditional Christian, American values, like, for instance, not screwing around on their wives. I realize this is difficult, but I think it is a worthwhile effort to find candidates that your average person can respect on a personal level.

On the other hand, we could abandon that and simply be the party of fiscal conservatism, but after the several years, we look about as fiscally responsible as your average 15 year old.

For conservatives, there is a simple solution to this. They should simply give up talking about "family values".

Personally, I favor family values but, as a part of the conservative political agenda, it has become a liability since too many conservative pols cannot "keep it in their pants" so to speak.

If conservatives focus on free enterprise/economic freedom issues, the cause will be better off for it.

Economies are based on trust. And how you can trust somebody that breaks the most importants promise he makes in his entire life. The two cannot be separated.

Some people don’t seem to understand that we keep “purging” the party to the point that we now have nothing to stop the Marxist in Chief.

BRAVO !!!

From what I’ve read, I gather that he was separated at the time of the affair. Sorry.... I can’t get upset about this one. Sure, he shouldn’t have been messing around with a married woman who was a staffer, but for gosh sakes, he was separated.

I’d happily rather see him — affair or not — as my Senator than Levin or Stabenow.

I agree — I doesn’t have the same impact if the two were separated.

Now Vitter and Ensign will be replaced with real conservatives. Have we picked someone to replace that degenerate Vitter yet? Election is only a little more than a year away and I have not heard any FREEPER saying that Vitter is being challenged by a real conservative yet. Time to dump Vitter and Ensign NOW!!!
