Environmentalists and industry representatives pleaded their case with federal regulators Tuesday over rules that would slash toxic emissions from cement kilns, the top source of mercury emissions in California.
The Environmental Protection Agency issued proposed regulations for Portland cement kilns earlier this year, after more than a decade of pressure from environmental groups. The rules aim to reduce the industry's mercury emissions by an estimated 81% to 93% annually, as well as cut emissions of hydrocarbons, particulate matter and hydrochloric acid.

When they get done with this we will be importing sand and gravel for road paving.
And then import even ‘dirtier’ commie cement from China & Venezuela.
Please someone, wake me up...
YooHoo! America! Time to wake up!
The country that pollutes the most is China, this article is very interesting and full of data and explanations of cement production worldwide. The graphs are important...link:

“Remember, in China, oil isn’t used in cement production. In the “clinker” stage, it’s all coal. In the blending stage it’s electricity (which is generated 80% from coal in China).
“And cement production in China is inefficient. There are hundreds of small plants, both wet and dry processes, and the local environmental impact is severe.
Making a pound of cement releases a pound of CO2. And a Gigaton or two?
This also isn’t a new phenomenon. This link shows data back to 1999 that illustrated that China has been at this for quite a while, but perhaps not to this extent.”
The graph in this article is stunning. It shows world cement production of many countries including US...Chinas coal based cement production is massive compared to the US, and India is a far second with the US lower. Willie Sutton of bank robbery fame would target China for emission control. Much of Chinas’ bad air comes to the US regularly and is visible from space. The US without China, at great expense to itself, cannot make a dent in pollution by itself.
Thanks for the post.
“The rules would “undermine the stability of the domestic cement industry, endangering thousands of jobs and the supply of a basic construction material for uncertain environmental benefits,” Andy O’Hare, a spokesman for the Portland Cement Assn., told EPA officials at the hearing in downtown Los Angeles.”
This is a fact. California cement mills have already been closed due to the cap and trade requirements on particulate emissions. Requirements that no other country in the world has to meet.
There is no way we can begin to pay off our foreign debt without loosening our environmental laws to bring these kinds of export businesses back.
Back to mud huts I guess. Tepees are a lot better but you have to cut down trees for poles and kill buffalo for the covering so I doubt that they will be allowed.
Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Cement kilns are also a major player in the destruction of haz waste. We used to ship flammables and such recovered from haz sites we remediated to kilns for use as fuel. How about that you greens?
And how about putting some high school loon up as a representative of the ALA? Is that sufficiently socialist?
