Not to mention that it is Romaine Lettuce and has bolted due to the warm weather. I live in Norhtern VA and threw mine in the compost pile on Monday.

I wonder who REALLY does all the daily garden maintenance???

None needed! The sheer radiance of our Glorious Leader will make all Good Things bountiful, and those of evil, Right Wing Extremism, wither...

Ninety days for lettuce and peas is no big deal.

Drudge is an idiot for headlining this this way. He (or whoever tends his site) obviously is a city slicker who doesn’t know beans about lettuce and peas.

Peasant! Real lettuce gardeners have outside air conditioners to keep the plants at the proper temperature until it is time for the photo op/harvest.

If I had been working in the garden, I would have at least one strand of hair out of place.

Oh wait! Maybe this is a photo-op?? Ya think???

Gotta be. Notice the jewelry, the un-gloved hands and the perpetual scowl.

I have never seen anyone look so uncomfortable trying to look like a typical American. She's probably wondering why she can't just take her rightful place ahead of Jackie Kennedy as "Princess of 1600 Pennsylvania"

Damned Barack! I got a Princeton degree. I'm a Harvard Law graduate -- and the SOB has me out back growing collard greens!

Thought maybe it was that Crisco is shortening.

I just picked the last of my leaf lettuce and my peas, both snap and regular, were done about 10 days ago. I live about 50 miles south of the district. Too wet this spring, as I cannot even get to the garden to weed.

I just got my first tomato here in KY. The plant already had little tomatoes on it when I planted it. Plus, it was really small.

Honestly, what is the mystery of lettuce growing? Its not any quicker than the ones I planted a few months ago on my porch, LESS THAN 7 MILES FROM THE WHITEHOUSE. I am the farthest thing from an Obama supporter, but even I have to admit most lettuce matures in 45 days.

You’re right. There’s nothing strange about harvesting peas and lettuce now. I grew lettuce from seed, and I harvested a month ago. The few heads of lettuce I neglected to harvest are beginning to bolt, as it’s too hot. I’ve grown snap peas other years, and they are one of the earlier things I harvested. I’m technically even in a cooler zone, I believe, but I’m guessing it doesn’t heat up as quickly in DC. If she had ripe tomatoes and eggplant, I might think something was up, but this is much ado about nothing.

I’m sure there’s a gardener on staff that takes care of this for Michelle, in any case.
