....The expulsion of foreign journalists is another ominous sign indicating that more bloodshed is planned. The government has made a calculated decision to confront demonstrations with pure force. It believes that the excitement of the people over the election results will be short lived. That the movement can be contained and the majority's will can be subdued using massive force and unimaginable brutality. In preparation for that scenario, it plans to isolate the country from the rest of the world as much as possible.
The government has other urgent reasons to crush the opposition swiftly. Two grand ayatollahs, Montazeri and Sanei, who are the highest religious authorities, have declared Ahmadinejad's government illegitimate. They have issued decrees. These are hard to reverse and difficult to deal with, particularly if they accumulate or take a harsher tone.
A quick resolution will probably silence the seminary and allow Ahmadinejad some time for reconciliation with the religious order.
Both Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammed Khatami, the former presidents, have so far failed to convince the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to agree to a compromise. Recounting all the votes is out of the question. In his last speech Khamenei insisted that Ahmadinejad received 24 million votes and called the victims of the paramilitary force a bunch of criminals. His tone of voice left little to the imagination as to what will happen between now and Friday.
The government's strategy of using force has already targeted all potential leaders of the opposition movement. From the loyal Islamic reformist Saied Hajarian, to more traditional outsiders like members of the National Front, all have been arrested and are now in detention. This is the first attempt by regime strategists to disconnect the people from their leaders.

As the great mullah Obambi wishes the regime swift success.
The people have no guns. They need to see how the Romanians dealt with this problem.
Read the article because the author takes a jab at CNN and Christine Goebbels.
The State Department strongly rejected claims that the U.S. was interfering in the disputed June 12 election, pointing out that diplomats from other countries had also been summoned. "I suspect we are in good company. As the president has said, we are not interfering in the debate that Iranians are having about their election and its aftermath," said State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley. "This is not about the United States."
Iran has compulsory military service. Most adult males over 21 have served, so all they need is guns and ammo. And the military has people who are relatives and friends of the people getting hurt. All it will take is somebody leaving the door open at an armory.
Such spirited debate is healthy!
So mojito, what do ya think?
Will the ruling crazies go postal?
Will the locals take charge and do in the bad guys?
I say the guys in charge are afraid and are going to do what they can to stay in power. Only chance I see is for a military hero to lead a rebellion and become a hero.
Is Israel somehow behind this Iranian division?
I have no way of knowing what forces are at work here. I do know that the students and protesters that have been able to acquire access to twitter use words like freedom, reform, and change. These are powerful words and could mean a lot of different things to different people.
They do ask that the US and the western nations stand with them. This is also a powerful statement from people who are suppose to hate us. I just don’t know... One thing I do know...this is going to get ugly...real ugly. Already people have died and have been incarcerated and yet they keep coming by the thousands...God help them.
I dunno. I think Obama wants to mirror Iran’s crack down here in America. Yet I think he also fears his own liberal minions are soon going to be disillusioned. The city is still proud of its icons, even in destitution, though.
On the other side are the vast numbers of people sick and tired of being ruled by theocrats; and who may be willing to die in large numbers to overthrow the regime.
I know, and you know, who the US should be supporting.
That Obama sides with the regime is sickening and disgraceful.
He’s just behaving like a good facist, no surprise here.
If I were BiBi I would use this “opportunity” to obliterate the nuclear sites in Iran. I shouldn’t say this but....Dear Leader’s chief henchman says...never let a good opportunity go to waste.
hit it Israel, the bad guys are gong to hurt good kids
Obama doesn't have American values. He's like a square peg in a round hole. There is a disconnect between him and the historical values of this country.
Remember when the CIA used to do cool stuff like running surplus military guns to revolutionaries who were fighting regimes that were sworn enemies of the USA?
Yup. Good times.
President Obamadinejad.
I don’t think such huge ‘crackdowns’ are in our future. I also don’t think the sheeple will rally on such a scale. Frogs in a slowly boiling pot of water they are...
It’s true. Our money has gotten less and less of the freedoms it were meant to leverage and more and more of their power... that is, until so long it figures the incompetent and illiterate “communicators” on top and around are in power.
