A key rally against Iran's presidential elections will go ahead on Saturday - in defiance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei - opposition sources say.
The wife of defeated candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, and an aide to another rival candidate Mehdi Karroubi, said the rally would go ahead.
Mr Mousavi later announced he would be giving a statement imminently.
Police have warned they will deal "firmly" with any protest rally, which they said would be illegal.
The warning follows an order from Ayatollah Khamenei on Friday that street protests should cease.
On her page of the social networking website Facebook, Mr Mousavi's wife Zahra Rahnavard said the rally would go ahead.
An aide to Mr Karroubi also told the BBC that a rally would take place and that it would be attended by Mr Mousavi and Mohammad Khatami - the former president, key reformist and ally of Mr Mousavi.

Looks like today could be a tipping point. God be with freedom-loving Iranians as they try to break the chains of oppression.
I hope enough people show up to prevent the “Supreme Leader” from having his way with them.
Anything is better than the tyrants in control now.
Meanwhile our President wishes they would just go home and be quiet so he doesn’t have to be asked about this anymore.
‘Just watching Laura Ingram replay from last night. When she used the term “Supreme Leader” I thought for a sec she was talking about 0. May God be with those in Iran who yearn for democracy and freedom. There, I’ve said what 0 refuses to endorse so I guess that makes me a right wing extremist.

Lord have mercy.
Iran state TV says clerics cancel rally

Iran’s state broadcaster said a group of moderate clerics had called off a planned protest rally in Tehran on Saturday against disputed election results because no permission had been granted.
The announcement, hours before the rally was due to go ahead at 4 p.m. (7:30 a.m. EDT), contradicted a statement from an aide to one of the defeated election candidates who earlier said the rally would go ahead.
We need a live thread. I asked the mod to move this one, but so far no response
Five minutes ago from Mousavi's facebook page
Saturday morning is always slow on this board, but I really expected more activity behing this.
I also heard reports that the militia preempted the rally and have a fairly heavy presence hours before the start of the protest
For what it’s worth
Crackdown.
Those who make nonviolent protest impossible make violent protest inevitable.

Thanks for the updates. I’ve been looking for anything concrete but it’s pretty quiet. That might indicate a non-event. We’ll see.

FOX just reported thousands in streets and heavy armed security presence...
btr - linked above says that Mousavi is marching.
Hopefully, after today, those who seek freedom in Iran, will fully realise, that overt and peaceful protests, working within the system, will get them nothing. nothing but beaten and dead, at thwe hands of Khamenei, and his dogs of Satan, the basiji.
Hopefully, they will realise that their only chance to see freedom in Iran, comes from being covert and deadly. That Khamenei, the Hardliners, and the Basiji, should come to know the real fear that there are now targets on all their faces. That every morning, wil find at least one Basiji, or hardliner betrayer of the Iranian people, hanging from a lampost or tree, or over the side of buioldings. Rob them of their weapons and turn them on them. Then disappear into the shadows to strike again at another time and place, where they are few in number.
Let there be Jihad against the Satan Ayatollahs, Hardliners and their Basiji pigs!!! Let *them* know no safety!.
