One of President Obama's favorite words is "unsustainable." It also happens to be the perfect description of his standing with the American people.
Polls consistently find he is personally more popular than his major policies. That situation is unsustainable - something has to give. The first law of politics says the two must eventually get in sync.
Bet that Obama's popularity will give. In part that's because, even if he wanted to, he can't undo the big policies the public doesn't like, especially his adding to the deficit and his aggressive push to get government more involved in private industry.
Another reason is that Obama doesn't want to change course and ridicules those who think he should. At a Democratic fund-raiser Thursday, the President reportedly mimicked a robot as he called criticism of his policies "predictable."
His partisan audience yukked it up, but the last laugh may be on Dems who follow their audacious leader too closely. Dem gains in the last two elections came primarily from conservative-leaning districts and some members already are worried about re-election. If the tide turns against Obama, they could be in trouble.
Yet Obama, like George Bush, seems to be digging a foxhole and insisting he is right and the public is wrong. We know how that worked out for Bush and the GOP.
While it's too early to say Obama's honeymoon is over, the public is waking up to the danger of uncontrolled government power and spending. Three separate polls last week had similar findings, and they weren't pretty for the White House.
Two found decline in Obama's job approval rating. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll pegged it at 56%, down five points. Most important, independents dropped dramatically, from nearly a two-to-one approval to closely divided.

My popularity is unsustainable!
Note: More good poll results in the article.
Oh, I thought he was wearing anything
The “people” wanted “change”. The man has grown up with marxist radicals as mentors, what kind of change did they expect?
This is why Obama and the Dem congressional leadership is in such a hurry to get things done this year. They know a good number of their members from more conservative districts aren’t going to be happy about voting for things like CAPP and trade etc. in 2010.
I remember before the ‘94 mid terms there was a political cartoon of an elephant holding up a sign that said “CHANGE” and in the background Bill Clinton shouted “Hey, no fair!!”.
My father once said "you must stand for something, or you will fall for anything".
This is not a good man so the public has to catch up in the fact that his policies are an extension of the controlling, narcisstic, hypocritical fraud that he is.
The people wanted change. The man has grown up with marxist radicals as mentors, what kind of change did they expect?
BINGO. I love that, it describes the change perfectly.
One of President Obama’s favorite words is “unsustainable.” It also happens to be the perfect description of his leadership skills.
Most people are keeping up the ‘I like him but not what he’s doing’ to make themselves feel better for being so rabidly pro-Obama who “isn’t like all the other politicians”. They are finding not only is he like all the other politicians, but worse.
I’ve made a comment to several Obama friends that it amazes me people are surprised that a politician acts like... a politician.
More to the point, they don't want to be classified a racist. So they like him personally (meaning they don't dislike people because they're black) but they hate his policies.
This only means that there will be More Free Infomercials on the Networks to Pump up those Personal ratings, dont worry the Commies in the Press wont let The ONE fail
People seem to like his skin color more than anything. How can anybody like him as a person? He is a thoroughly dislikable cretin. I honestly can’t think of another human being I’d less like to meet. Except, perhaps, his wife.
The “they like him, but not his policies” is bogus. I am sure the people they poll are afraid of being called a racist if they say they don’t like him.
I would add a question to a poll that asked, “Do you think others would brand you racist if you gave an honest opinion of Obama”? LOL
That explains the oddity.
There is a lot of that out there. I listened to a "discussion" about a week ago and heard a great answer to this: "right color, wrong man".
They wanted “CHANGE” in ‘06 too. dim-0s promised it,if they could only gain control of congress and we have REALLY gotten a “CHANGE” since then. Compare GDP growth, unemployment numbers and the DOW from ‘06 and now.
The press constantly said the same thing about Reagan, that people liked him personally, but disapproved of his policies. I’m not sure people like King Obo that much, because the press is in the tank and won’t give us the facts.
My wife is left of center, but she said the other day that if the next elections are legitimate the Democrats could find out it doesn’t matter who the Republicans run. Democrats are achieving a reputation of spendthrift monarchs and luxury living crooks. That’s not a popular position.
Or the pollsters might have been paid off to give completely bogus numbers. These days, anything’s possible.
