If you feel one in Michigan, a lot of the rest of us really will not exist.

Well...not necessarily. I felt one when I lived in western Michigan. It was sometime around 1985 or ‘86.

There was a very obvious one in NE Ohio, about 5.0 on January 31, 1986. I was about 35 miles away and it sounded as if a herd of buffaloes was running across the roof of the building I was in for about 20 seconds. The electrical wires were swaying. My wife was at home (40+ miles away) with the kids and clearly felt it move east to west along the length of the house.

"The main earthquake was felt over a large area of the Eastern United States, covering all or parts of eight States (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia) and Ontario, Canada. It also was reported by people on the top floors of multistory buildings in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, and Wisconsin, as well as Washington, D.C. "

Quote from http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/states/events/1986_01_31.php Midwest quakes are felt over a wide area. It was felt in Michigan.
