I'm sure Politico would like to burry him. It doesn't help though to not tell your wife where the heck you are.

She was NOT worried, thus she knew what he was doing.
Whatever it was it will be revealed and NOT be a bad thing.

I hope.

Why does Politico think it is more privy to the inner workings of the Sanford family than Sanford’s wife is?

I was listening to a Chicago radio station this morning- they said this smells like Rahm and Axelrod.

They are trying to take out the competition early.

So Sanford goes away for Father’s day?

Maybe that was his kids gift!

He needs to go public, right now, and say that he needed peace, quiet and solitude for a few days, after a bruising legislative session wherein he fought hard to prevent entangling his state with federal stimulus money, but sadly did not succeed.

That he treasures his boys, having lost his own father when he was a teen, that his wife, children and staff all knew where he was, and just refused to tell a hostile newsmedia because they knew what would happen ... they'd have descended upon him in a swarm, and none of them wanted that.

Let this ride for another day and he'll be riding the media's crazy train along with Ross Perot. Do it.

... about presidential hopefuls: Just how strange is too strange?

Depends on your point of reference: barky or President Reagan.

Oh, crap. His wife knew where he was. This is typical Goebbel’s crap from the the assholes in the press who can’t even ask for obuma’s college transcripts.

If a man wants to take a hike and so-called conservatives object, you can take a flying leap out the window and crash and burn.

This incessant upset about where Gov. Sanford is is nothing more than the whining of left wing liberals. We don’t care if you liberal jerks don’t know where Sanford is. You can go take a flying leap off a bridge. You so-called conservatives worrying about where Sanford was can also take a flying leap off a tall building.

I am a South Carolinian. I was at first tempted to say this story was “much ado about nothing.” But that’s not true. This story lays bare the clear, selfish, hateful agenda of a number of politicians in the South Carolina REPUBLICAN Party. And I’m gonna NAME NAMES.

Governor Andre Bauer, whom I supported for Lt. Governor in 2002 & 2006, has apparently been itching for revenge since Gov. Sanford’s wife Jenny endorsed another candidate for Lt. Gov. in ‘06. When he couldn’t reach the governor “immediately” and the staff wouldn’t reveal Sanford’s whereabouts, HE went to the PRESS.

For those who don’t know, the Media HATES Sanford. They were only too GLAD to further the smear. They distorted the statements of both Mrs. Sanford and the Governor’s staff (from what I have gathered from my readings and admittedly limited sources) to make it appear that Governor Sanford was derelict in his duties.

Of course Sanford’s enemies in the Legislature took up the cause. Senate Pro Tem Glenn McConnell has proposed a bill to further control the actions, movements and choices of the Governor — even in his “personal” retreats and vacations — as if they haven’t emasculated the office of Governor already with their lust for Federal stimulus funds. Now, they get to seize more control in a thinly veiled political “coup... Read More” and kick Mark Sanford once again. And of course, terminal Sanford Critic and good ole boy Jake Knotts (R-Lexington) was quick to hop on that bandwagon.

I have ALWAYS liked Glenn McConnell, ALWAYS supported Andre Bauer for State-wide office — but if this scenario proves to be true, I will fight tooth and nail, support opponents as much as I possibly can, and REFUSE to vote for them for statewide office if this is indeed the way the scenario plays out.

Of course, I am nobody in SC — not even a member of the Republican Party (They are too liberal — and they inflicted David Beasley on us, after all). But THIS kind of treachery...?!

IMHO, based on the info from all the articles about this, I suspect he had a cell phone with him. And only two or three people had the number.

I also suspect his wife may have fibbed about not knowing where he was.

Don't most or if not all governors have state police escorts ?
Even if his chief of staff didn't know where he was, or his wife.... most surely the state police unit that protects him knew where he was ?

This is a comment that needs to be addressed:

“Just how strange is too strange?”

I imagine that the surrender poodle, Jon Martin of Political, would find it strange that Col Moultrie stored nine and twelve pound cannons in his barn in 1775.

The surrender poodle Jon Martin would also find it “strange” that Col Moultrie turned back a British invasion fleet that attacked Chalston on June 29, 1776.

I’m sure that the wimp, Jon Martin, would be horrified that Col. Moultrie and the 1st and 2nd South Carolinia regiments battled for our freedom some 250 years ago and helped give us our freedom.

The sniveling coward Jon Martin would also be upset that the president of the South Carolina legislature - I believe it was John Rutledge, correct me if I’m wrong - awarded his sword to a member of the brave men who defended the harbor on Johnston Island.

I have the utmost respect for my South Carolinian friends, past and present.

I just don’t understand why he would not tell the “acting” governor that he will be out of pocket for a few days. This would have stopped all of this. I think at the very least he needed to speak with the Lieutenant Governor...like him or not I think that is your responsibility to do this.

Wow, how about this for strange? A guy who:

cannot prove where he was born
has no friends from college
wrapped himself in Chicago-style politics
has no experience running a business
has no lengthy experience running a senate office
had no private sector experience as an employee to speak about
has to have everything scripted for him

And yet the media suck up to him every chance they get? I think THAT is strange.

It doesn't help though to not tell your wife where the heck you are.

Or your top aide.

Heck, I'm just an analyst and I let my company know what I'm up to weekdays.

And then he decides Father's Day is the day to go disappear on his family.

You wanna be governor or president? You just can't go disappear in the woods for five days. Not in the modern age. This is really curious behavior.

{As a member of Congress in the 1990s, he slept in his office to save money}

Sanford practices what he preaches about fiscal conservatism. Sanford's personality quirks pale in comparison to Obama’s Messianic complex.

Maybe just mid-life crisis? Here's a photo of the 4 sons he left behind on Father's Day. Very odd.
