Actor Jeff Goldblum died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning - June 25, 2009.
Preliminary reports from New Zealand Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set. Specific details are not yet available.
The accident occured at aproximatly 4:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +12). Additional details and information will be forthcoming.

I remember some interviewer (Charlie Rose maybe) asked him whether in an earlier era, he would have changed his name. The discussion of course turned to religious and ethnic bigotry, and how the interviewer and Goldblum were both against those two things, but one point I was sad they missed on was that to my mind, anyway, “Jeff Goldblum” was a short, crisp name and has a good mix of hard and soft consonants, while some other names do not.
“Issur Danielovitch” could not appear in Westerns — the soft consonants dominate the name, but “Kirk Douglas” could — it’s short and crisp, and the hard consonants dominate. Maybe Danielovitch could be a concert pianist, but not a western hero. This to my mind is not ethnic/religious bigotry.
I don’t think John Wayne was Jewish, but what kind of a Western hero could Marion Morrison be?
