On the contrary. NYT and other media were waiting until October 2012 (or at least 2010). Just like Foley thing. Dem leaders knew about it early on, but they waited until the last minute in order to maximize the damage.
Makes me wonder why people like Edwards continue their run? They must understand that eventually the truth comes out..Maybe this was why Sanford did not run in 2008..and Bill Clinton got away with multiple rapes and affairs..
I would imagine that they were holding this ammunition in case they needed it for an October surprise.
Why? It would be better to announce it only after the GOP had fully invested in him ... like just after a high profile nomination.
They were saving it until the best time. Some time after Sanford would have announced he was running for prez.
Maximum damage and exposure. Think about this being released during a presidential primary or just prior to the general election.
They don't even pretend objectivity anymore.
It is not surprising. The NYT was probably waiting on Sanford to enter the primaries for 2012. More damage to the GOP that way.

The minute he secured the GOP Presidential nomination they would have run with it.
