Obama urges Americans get tested for HIV 33 mins ago
WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama on Saturday urged his fellow Americans to get tested for HIV in an effort to reduce transmission of the virus that causes AIDS.
"On this 14th commemoration of National HIV Testing Day, I urge Americans to take control of their own health -- and protect those they love -- by getting tested for HIV and working to reduce HIV transmission," Obama said in a statement.
"While its impacts are not evenly spread -- infection rates are particularly high among gay and bisexual men, African Americans and Latinos -- when one of our fellow citizens becomes infected with HIV every nine-and-a-half minutes, the epidemic affects all Americans," he said.

Everyone should do what they feel they should with the census. Answer one question, the number of persons, answer the 3 I will answer, or be a total libtard and answer the hundred details of the private lives of Americans that the gov’t is fishing for.
I have a plan. I have a written statement prepared, based on The Constitution, to hand to any census thug who steps on my farm. I will answer the 3 questions I feel are Constitutionally based. Nothing more. Everyone will decide for themselves if they will answer at all, answer only the number, or whatever else they feel like giving away to the government.
At this point, the gov’t is nothing more than an oppressive weight upon us. After cap and tax gets done with us all, we won’t have to answer silly questions on a census like “how many sinks do you have and how many have faucets?” We won’t have anything. It might be fun to answer the “is anyone in this residence hard of hearing? with “WHAT?”.

I had no plans to get tested for HIV. I have not done any of the risky things which spread HIV. I am not in a high risk group. What’s the point???
I wish Obama had said why gay and bisexual men are at high risk. I wish he had said why certain minority groups are at higher risk.
The point being, rates of HIV and AIDS would drop dramatically if people behaved differently. We have been hearing about condoms and safe sex for over 20 years now. Why hasn’t that message penetrated certain people???? And what more can the government do if it hasn’t gotten through to certain people????

I don’t get it. Here is the relevant text:
“But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice-President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.”
I understand this would have required at the time knowing the total population of males 21 and over. But hasn’t this been superceded, given that females and 18 year olds now have the right to vote? So I guess I can see the continued importance of age, but not anymore sex.
Also, this was obviously intended to punish the Southern states if they got it in their heads to deny the vote to blacks, upon whom, incidentally, the so-called Radical Republicans were relying. This part of the clause was never enforced to my knowledge, and was superceded by the 15th amendment, no?

When I was growing up, the lesson drilled into our heads was that anyone can get AIDS.
Real life experience hasn't borne that out. The only people I knew who got AIDS were gay males. I don't know one single straight person, no matter how promiscuous, who got AIDS.
If you look at AIDS cases, upwards of 90% are men who have sex with other men, prostitutes and intravenous drug users. For the average straight person, AIDS is well down on the list of things to worry about.
