And I suspect that there were those in the media who knew about his affair (it’d been something that had been ongoing for a couple of years, even Edwards’ wife knew and kept quiet about it during the campaign).

I also suspect that those in the media (who also kept hush about Obama renegging on his promise to quit smoking) did so to keep Edwards viable in the primary and keep Hillary in a 3-way fight for delegates.
