6 States Want to Nullify Obamacare With Opt Out Law
Publius' Forum ^ | 6/28/09 | Warner Todd Huston

Six states are currently looking to add an "opt out" law to their books to protect citizens from the possibility of a national healthcare plan imposed by federal fiat.

Arizona started the ball rolling by introducing the Health Care Freedom Act, a voting initiative that will be put before voters on the 2010 ballot. If accepted by the majority of the voters, Arizona will be able to opt out of any federal healthcare laws passed by Washington. Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota and Wyoming are considering similar measures.

The arrogance of Congress and the president worries many of these state lawmakers, some even consider Obama's healthcare policies a naked power grab...

Good luck, with the democrats in the state congress chubbing (stalling the vote) on everything. Nothing got done this session. They did not even pass the bill reclaiming 10th Amendment rights.

Unless the economy collapses and puts the federal government “out of business”, the time is fast approaching when the individual States will have no choice but to call a constitutional convention.

And though the conventional wisdom is that it could be disastrous, the truth of the matter is that first of all, there will be no other reasonable choice, the issue will be forced; and second, that because 3/4ths of the States must ratify the new constitution, the changes will be limited and to the point.

Unlike the loss of State power with the 17th Amendment, the direct election of Senators, delegates to a constitutional convention will not be elected, but selected, by each State legislature. Thus the emphasis will not be on the political left or right, but on States rights vs. federal power.

Likely, a constitutional convention would be held on a major military base, to protect it from a legion of outsiders who would desperately try to influence it. Delegates would be sequestered, and only allowed to communicate with the leadership of their State legislature. And the military personnel designated to protect them would likely be sworn to a second, special oath, and themselves be restricted to post.

The federal government would be in solely a caretaker role during the course of the convention, precluded from passing any law that might influence the course of the convention.

The Feds still have everybody by the nads. Individual states can opt out of getting Federal health care but the IRS will still demand that their citizens pay for it.

Is it true that 30+ states have already called for a Constitutional Convention, with only 2 or 3 more necessary to make one happen?

“Time to rekindle those secession talks.”

You're looking at it now. This opt-out could be considered as a sort of a “soft-secession”

I have noticed that the most conservative run states, that is where conservatives leaderships reign, are having for the most part fair to good economies even in these very hard times. This is because most true conservatives in such states tend to rein in spending and keep taxes low and have pro-business, pro-industry principles that help their states weather such economic hard times unlike states like California, Illinois, Michigan, New York and many others that are running their states into the ground and into deepening debt.

Constitution? Since when did a Democrat care anything about the Constitution?
___________
Democrats don’t OWN this country and there are more people that DO care about the Constitution than don’t and they may find that our the hard way in the end.
