First official results in Argentina's mid-term legislative elections suggest President Cristina Fernandez's party has lost control of Congress.
The results suggest the ruling Peronist party has lost its majority in both the lower house and the Senate.
Ms Fernandez' husband Nestor Kirchner conceded a closely-watched battle to win the populous Buenos Aires province.
The polls were seen as a referendum on the popularity of the presidential couple, our correspondent says.

With most of the votes counted, Nestor Kirchner conceded defeat to a dissident Peronist, wealthy businessman Francisco de Narvaez.

The elections took place against a backdrop of deep economic problems, and amid complaints of government incompetence.
Consumer spending has slumped, and crime and poverty are more visible.
Many Argentines have been shifting their savings into dollars and sending it offshore, uncertain of the government's ability to deal with their economic woes, our correspondent says.
A damaging row between the Kirchners and the country's powerful agricultural sector over taxation has added to people's concerns.

The way things are going in Argentina, maybe Mark Sanford can run for President down there. ;)
Its republicans that are losing. Conservatives will do fine. There is a difference.
People everywhere are figuring out they can cash the checks the liberal leaders are writing - except us that.
It’s rare that the US and other Democracies are at the same place in the cycle between Conservative and Liberal government. When it does happen (think Ronnie and Maggie) the results can be spectacular.
The one in trouble that commie woman who seized everyone’s retirement accounts at the first sign of economic difficulty. Hillary praised her for doing it to. Our government will be coming for our 401K’s before this is over.
Pretty soon we are going to be to the left of the whole damn world
well said, well said....or sung.
With most of the votes counted in the populous province of Buenos Aires, Mr Kirchner conceded defeat to a dissident Peronist, wealthy businessman Francisco de Narvaez.
I'd have to research this news a bit further before I called a "dissident Peronist", or any Peronist conservative. Besides, Kirchner's ol' lady remains president for two more years. This seems more like an intra-party shakeup to me, which could drive circumstances from bad to much, much worse.
What happened here? What happened to the money people had saved in their 401K's? Did the government just take it?
A friend in Buenos Aires was happy that the “Right” as she calls it won there. Considering that the current “leadership” there is outright Socialists, a swing to more conservative government could be what Argentina needs to get it’s economy and government spending in order. Obviously the Leftists are not going to be happy, so they could see some street shenanigans - does ACORN have an office in Argentina? ;)
The Argentine government seized all of its citizen's private retirement accounts. Everyone who had one now gets the government's Social Security instead.
