Electing a liberal in conservative clothing -- i.e., bringing the Trojan horse inside the city walls -- is not an act of winning. It's an act of utter stupidity.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...they're all liberals except...(sound of crickets chirping...tumbleweed blows down the street). I've voted in 8 elections over almost 30 years and it's ALWAYS a compromise. That's what a republic is all about.

Your point is pointless. Reagan defied conventional wisdom and won from right-center. Bush the Elder drifted leftward and lost when he didn't have Reagan's coattails to pull him through. Bush the younger was far more conservative than his dad, but less conservative than Reagan, and had two extemely tight races. If you want to win, push conservatism.
