Romney Urges Republicans to 'Stand Up' to Obama's Policies [as he extols the virtues of Romney Care]
Fox News ^ | 2009-07-01

On health care, Romney pointed to the successes of his own plan but criticized Obama's for its emphasis on a public option.

"The president's plan makes an enormous error by saying we're going to put government into the insurance business. We got everyone in Massachusetts insured and we did it without putting government into the insurance business," he said. "We said instead we're going to help people get private free enterprise kind of insurance they can buy from a number of different companies."

He said the system led to plunging premiums while offering a healthy choice of options for consumers.

"It's working well. We got 440,000 more people insured than when the plan was put in place, it costs less than 2 percent of the state budget -- it's a plan that's working, it's a good model," he said.

Because “this RINO” wants to be the Republican equivalent of Obama.

An unpopular Obama vs Romney would leave a lot of room for a 3rd party canddate. If there was a year someone could duplicate Ross Perot, it is 2012. You are going to have disillusioned leftists, centrists AND rightists.

You can run on just 1 or 2 issues based on the economy.

Now, who that would be? I have no idea. I’m not endorsing any of these, just looking at who has name recognition to give it a go. If Jesse Ventura had not gone so far down the 9/11 rabbit hole he would have a chance..though he isn’t an economic guy. Bloomberg is a joke. Ron Paul is too old now. Not sure who fits the bill.

We may be entering a time where a person like a Donald Trump or Mark Cuban or Steve Wynn or Vince McMahon or some other half celeb/half businessman could make a run at getting 33%. I think this time around it has to be a “celeb businessman” or a business man with a lot of personality. Just an actor or known person with no economic knowledge can’t pull it off this time around, maybe in the future. Trump wouldn’t withstand actual scrutiny of his finances or personal life, but he has the kind of wide name recognition that would work. Again this isn’t who I would LIKE to see, just who could pull it off.

Creating a 3 way race dynamic vs an unpopular President and an uninspiring 2nd party candidate wouldn’t be out of the question. Especially if we are in a legit depression...there will only be one issue..the economy. I’m sure I am forgetting someone.

"It's an act of utter stupidity."

Yes, I'm sure you're absolutely right. Romney is just another Obama.

Of course, we actually have no idea who the Republican candidate will be in 2012, but whoever it is will certainly be a liberal.

You're right. I'll just stay home.

Romney makes clear in this article that he would bring
socialized health care to America just like he did in Mass.

So, you support allowing the state-run media to choose the GOP candidate for us?

We need to win. We need to dump the Dems in Congress and in the WH. Playing the "I'm staying home cuz he/she isn't a real conservative", simply allows the Dems to destroy America.

You have it exactly backwards. Running a RINO guarantees a Dem win. McCain had no shot whatsoever until he chose Palin as his running mate.

Not after all the “Qualing” this past year, no.

Spare me, you Palin-bashing jackass. You post every anti-Palin story you can find and then roll in it like a dog on a fresh turd.

Electing a liberal in conservative clothing -- i.e., bringing the Trojan horse inside the city walls -- is not an act of winning. It's an act of utter stupidity.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...they're all liberals except...(sound of crickets chirping...tumbleweed blows down the street). I've voted in 8 elections over almost 30 years and it's ALWAYS a compromise. That's what a republic is all about.

What a complete fraud. I still maintain that if Romney was bald, he wouldn’t have nearly so many admirers. He’d just be another Arlen Specter clone.

There is only one politician in the US that can make a quick short notice trip to a city and get a crowd of 20,000.

SARAH PALIN!

Of course he does. Steve-b is the new "murraymom" around here. He trashes anyone even moderately conservative. That's his MO. Why he is tolerated, I'll never know.

Your point is pointless. Reagan defied conventional wisdom and won from right-center. Bush the Elder drifted leftward and lost when he didn't have Reagan's coattails to pull him through. Bush the younger was far more conservative than his dad, but less conservative than Reagan, and had two extemely tight races. If you want to win, push conservatism.

I expect a lot more third-party activity in 2012 no matter who the Republicans nominate, given the degree of intraparty disarray and backbiting.

“There is only one politician in the US that can make a quick short notice trip to a city and get a crowd of 20,000.”

AMEN!!!!!! SARAH PALIN is the ONLY one who can do that! I’ve been to one of her rallies (Springfield, MO). It was announced that she was coming just a couple of days before she did, and the tickets were gone in less than an hour. There were thousands (and I mean THOUSANDS) of people who packed the parking lot of Bass Pro Shops and continued in a line about a mile down the street.

THAT is the candidate who we need to run in 2012! She is the only one who can bring so many people together for a unified cause.

We need Sarah, NOT Romney! The Country Club Republican ‘Big Tent’ elitist crowd should just shut their traps!
