Happy Dependence Day, America
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, for 232 years, on July 4th, America celebrated Independence Day.  I mean, that's what it was about.  Sadly, for too many Americans, it just became a cookout.  But for 232 years on July 4th -- and it might be 233, you know, my numbers guy is sometimes off by years or months, but if it's 233, I don't care.  Since the beginning of this country we have celebrated Independence Day.  And now we have to ask ourselves, are we heading to Dependence Day?  Not if I can help it.  "When, in the course of human events," seven words that started the Declaration of Independence and begat the United States of America, independence, a single word, a glorious idea, a word that guided us, governed us for 232 or 3 or 4, whatever the number is, years, independence, liberty, freedom, independence, that which made us different from everyone else.  But on this July 4th we have to give pause.

Are we celebrating Independence Day or a new Dependence Day, dependence on government for our health, our wealth, our income, there won't be any wealth, our well-being?  Independence or dependence?  The answer, my friends, is written in the polls.  Thirty-five to 45% of Americans want dependence.  It is our job, your job, my job, ours to do everything we can to resist the false promises of dependence and cherish the virtues of independence.  It shouldn't be that difficult, really.  We have 232, 3, 4, whatever the number of years of evidence, proof, that independence works far better than dependence, better for the individual.  In fact, we have world history to show us this, not just our own.  It works better for the individual, and as our Founders foresaw, better for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  But I fear we're soon to be saying happy Dependence Day.  Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to all rise -- except for those of you driving -- I would like you to all rise as we play the new national anthem of the Banana Republic of the United States.

(playing of national anthem spoof)

Are you still standing?

(continued playing of song)

Harry Belafonte and the new national anthem.

(continued playing of song)

Harry Belafonte and the new national anthem of the United States, now officially a banana republic.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Arlington, Texas.  Faith, I'm glad you waited.  Thank you, and hello.

CALLER:  Hi.

RUSH:  Hi.

CALLER:  Mega dittos.

RUSH:  Thank you very much.

CALLER:  I've been listening to you for 16 years, and I'm 24 years old.

RUSH:  I was going to say, you don't sound 16 even on the phone to me.

CALLER:  Thank you.  I have two children, ages three-and-a-half and 18 months, and I was listening to that banana republic that you played earlier and it just brought tears to my eyes.

RUSH:  You mean the new US national anthem?

CALLER:  Yes.

RUSH:  Day-O, by Harry Belafonte?

CALLER:  Yes.  I guess I just realized that my kids aren't going to be growing up in the same country that I did.

RUSH:  Not yet.  It's not time to say that yet.  Because not everybody has given up here, not everybody has said to hell with it and I'm going to New Zealand, not everybody said this.  Don't have that attitude, this is all worth fighting for, especially for your kids.

CALLER:  I definitely agree, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of people on our side of the fence stand up for what's right, with the eight Republicans --

RUSH:  Well, Faith, let's be honest.  You've been listening here for 16 years?

CALLER:  Yes.

RUSH:  You don't need anybody else, right?  As long as I'm on the case, then there's leadership being provided, for the people that matter, and that's the American people.  All that other stuff will happen.  It will coalesce as we near an election. When you need to worry is when I tell you one day, "Folks, live from New Zealand, it's the Rush Limbaugh program."

CALLER:  (laughing)  I suppose that day would make me very sad.

RUSH:  Yeah, that would be a day that I would sanction tears, but not today.  Not today.

CALLER:  You think there's hope, then, that we can take it back?

RUSH:  Yes.  We haven't lost it yet.  It's not going to be easy, but we can do it.

CALLER:  So I shouldn't start signing up my kids for foreign language classes yet?

RUSH:  Well, you might do that anyway for their education, that's not a bad thing to do, but no, not because English will not be spoken here.  No, no, no.  We haven't gotten to that point.

CALLER:  Well, good.

RUSH:  There's hope for change, Faith, your name says it all.  Somebody named you right?  You got faith, you are Faith.

CALLER:  Yes.

RUSH:  Hope and change.

CALLER:  Yeah, I guess I don't need hope and change when I have faith.

RUSH:  That's right.  Actually, hope is an excuse for not doing anything.  Faith is what guides you.  I'm glad you called me today.  We don't need you checking out.

CALLER:  Okay.  Well, I appreciate it very much.

RUSH:  All right, Faith.  Thanks very much.  In case you missed it, ladies and gentlemen, with the unemployment news today, we are very, very close, folks, to banana republic now, United States banana republic.  And as such, I introduced a new national anthem today.

(playing of national anthem spoof)

How Did Obama Get Elected?
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This is Dick in St. Louis.  Hi.

CALLER:  Hi.  Rush, just think how bad things would be if Obama had not proposed with his stimulus and his bailouts and all these proposed programs that he's going to put out.  Things could be a lot worse without that.  And all the jobs he saved? My goodness!

RUSH:  Dick? (laughing)

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: Are you for real?

CALLER:  No, not really.

RUSH:  I was going to say (laughing) you're pretty good because that's what he's going to say in a half hour.

CALLER:  Right.

RUSH:  Obama is going to address the jobs situation in 35 minutes from somewhere in Washington.  I guarantee you that's going to be of where he's going with it.

CALLER:  Well, this is exactly what Bill Clinton would say.  This is a Clintonian thing.

RUSH:  I tell you... Let me tell you something.

CALLER:  Go ahead.

RUSH:  Clinton was good but he's a piker compared to Obama.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: Look, can I explain how?

CALLER:  Sure.

RUSH:  Can I explain how?  Do you realize...? I found this out the other day. I'll let you in on some news here but I meant to tell you this yesterday.  Remember that Roger Altman column that was in the Wall Street Journal saying there's no way out of this; we gotta have a tax increase? I said, "Here comes an Obamaite. This is a whistleblower."  I was deluged with e-mails: "Roger Altman's not an Obamaite; he's a Hillaryite!  Roger Altman is a Clintonite," and I was told that these people in the Clinton orb are just furious at how Obama has marginalized Hillary.  She's secretary of state, but he's got all these czars that take care of the real important places in the world.  Like he's got Richard Holbrooke in the Middle East. He's got Biden who landed in Iraq today, we're guessing. They're reporting it but with Biden's everything's a guess, but Hillary has nothing to do.

You know, she swears in new ambassadors, and she goes on Greta Van Susteren asking North Koreans to listen to her on Greta's show, and these Clintonites are very upset. It's bad enough that a guy has marginalized Hillary. It's even worse that it's this guy.  So the Clintons really have been -- and what's Bill?  He's envoy to where?  Haiti.  You don't want to go there.  If you're the envoy or not, you don't want to go there.  He took it.  But I don't think he's been.  Last time anybody of note was there was when they were filling Quantum of Solace, the James Bond movie.  You know, those movies glamourize places.  That was a tough sell.  They marginalized the Clintons.  They really have.  I mean, the Obamaites have.  And that's evidence just what a piker is Clinton is compared to Obama and the way he can sell this stuff.  I mean... What was it?  Let's put it this way.  I have been serving humanity 15 hours a week, on average, for almost 21 years, and the Drive-By Media still doesn't understand me.  They still don't get me.  After 21 years and 15 hours a week, they still don't get me.  Why do we think they're going to someday in a couple of months or years get Obama?  They don't get anything.  It either fits the template or it doesn't.

Who's next?  Michael in Meridian, Connecticut, thank you for calling, sir, great to have you with us.

CALLER:  Rush, great to talk with you.  I've been calling in so many times and I finally got through.

RUSH:  Thank you, sir.

CALLER:  Listen, I have a question for you.  When are the American people going to wake up and realize -- and just see through President Obama?  Because, I don't know... From where I'm sitting, the economy is getting worse and worse, and I can't help but think that a lot of these policies that he's putting in place are being done systematically to dismantle this economy.

RUSH:  Oh, I --

CALLER:  And I think --

RUSH:  I agree with you, and let me give you... For people that don't think that's possible let me ask you a simple question.  If you're trying to get cap and trade and health care and all that, if you're trying to get it passed what's the best sales technique you can have?  Misery.  People can't take their health care with them when they lose a job; it's not portable. So the more people unemployed losing their health care, Obama is out there saying, "I can fix it," even though his plan doesn't do that! His plan does not have portability in it.  There's no question that this purposeful.

CALLER:  I just think this man despises wealth. He despises capitalism.  I feel like his policies are putting in place is to somehow get back for things that have happened in the past.  It's just so obvious to me, and I don't know how the American people can't see through it.

RUSH:  That remains the question, and we don't know.  And we'll find out in the next couple of elections.  That's why we can't cease and desist (that's stop, for those of you in Rio Linda) working to inform people day in and day out.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Debbie, Riverside, Alabama.  Great to have you with us on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Thank you so much, Rush, and thank you for all that you do.

RUSH:  You're welcome.

CALLER:  I have a question.

RUSH:  Yes.

CALLER:  I have a question, and it is this.  And pardon me for just a minute.  I was running through a department store trying to get away from music.  To all the people that are helping Obama to succeed and having a government takeover, to all of them, the news media, ACORN, to all of these people, Rush, that are helping him, do they stop and think what is going to happen to me if he does succeed, then what?

RUSH:  No.  They think of themselves as elites exempt from whatever happens.

CALLER:  Do they really believe that will be --

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  -- the case?

RUSH:  Yeah, I'm sure they do.  I'm sure they'll be among the most favored status when all this finally goes down.  Look at the health care bill and the question I asked last week:  Call your member of Congress or your senator and say, "If this public option is so wonderful, are you going to give up your own plan and join the rest of us in this plan you're going to write for us?"  And they won't.  They have their own plan.  Now, I know you're talking about average Americans.  You're not talking about elected officials when you ask me, do these people really know what he's doing?   Yeah.

CALLER:  Actually, I'm really speaking of the news media, ACORN --

RUSH:  Let me tell you something.  The best way to answer your question is to tell you what my dad told me when I was a boy.  He said, "Son, the reason the news media is so stupid, if the communists ever took over this country, they'd be the first put in jail, but they think they would be welcomed into the inner circle."

CALLER:  Rush, I don't think they realize when you do speak of the average American, I do not think these people realize at all or maybe do not care at all how we view them.

RUSH:  What is the average American anymore?  We've got brain dead people who pay scant attention who are just out there boogying and dancing.  They're going to clubs and they're totally focused on the United States of entertainment.  Then you have other people who don't care about anything, and they're just sitting around with their pet snakes, and then you've got a group of people that care horribly, terribly much about this, and most of those people are outraged by what they see --

CALLER:  Yes, they are.

RUSH:  -- but they also know that 53% of that other crowd elected this chump.  And so your questions still are not answerable yet.  This is why we have faith in the decency of a majority of the American people.  It is what propels and sustains me.  And I understand these election results in 2008.  Could you explain to me what alternative there was to voting for Obama?

CALLER:  Well, I think it was all intentional in the way it went down.

RUSH:  Well, intentional in the sense that maybe McCain, because of Obama's race, really didn't want to mount a bare knuckles campaign.  But my point is, for people that didn't like Obama, was there a genuine inspiring alternative, for those people to turn to?  No.  The Republican Party didn't let 'em down, the Republican Party had nominated a moderate, one of the leaders of the party was endorsing Obama.  We'd had six years of a Bush administration trashed to the point where the approval rating was 29, 30%, and that administration never defended itself.

CALLER:  And that infuriated us, Rush, that he never came out and defended himself.  He should have been out there or someone out there every day.

RUSH:  As a result, I run into people I would consider intelligent who will say, "Can't get any worse than Bush.  I mean it just can't."  They were totally convinced of how rotten things were.  Now it's amazing, the economy was so much better?  We have a surge in Afghanistan.  We have a huge military operation Afghanistan that rivals anything Bush did.  Any criticism of it?  Well, there is some coverage of it.  It's interesting.  A reporter was kidnapped by the Taliban last week and of course the Drive-Bys went nuts on that.  But a US soldier has been captured by the Taliban, and that's one of the reasons for this big push that the military is engaging in.  And the people reporting on it are upset here, and Obama, by the way, has now come out for unending detentions in this AP interview.  This is how he does it.  He says on the prolonged detentions, "It gives me huge pause."  It doesn't give him huge pause.  It's his plan.  He is simply continuing what Bush did.  He's continuing the spy program that everybody hated Bush for.  Obama's doing it.

What else did he say in this interview?  He said on Iran obtaining nukes, "I'm not reconciled with that."  Big deal.  Not reconciled with it?  You know, he's probably talking to Hugo Chavez.  I'll betcha Chavez's military is in the hills down there surrounding Honduras, waiting for the "go" signal from Obama to go in there and finally have a real coup to take a democratic country back.  And on the white firefighter court ruling, Obama told the AP, "That's a very narrow ruling, hard to gauge."  This is how he does it.  He makes himself appear as just the squishiest, most reasonable moderate, while he is the author of the destruction taking place all around us.  So the question of the day is, these people that voted for him, "When are we going to get their attention?"  Bernie Goldberg said it last night.  He said it on a Fox show.  They were talking about the Michael Jackson coverage. People are looking at that and saying, the country's gone, I mean, here we got Norks, got Honduras, we've got the Iranians working on nukes, we've got health care, all these destructive things Obama wants to do with the country and 92% of cable news coverage is Michael Jackson.  And Bernie Goldberg said, "Well, what do you do expect?  It's the United States of entertainment."

Celebrities are bigger than -- in fact, Obama tops, there's some credible hot 100 list of celebrities.  Obama is number one, and it's the first time a United States president as made a celebrity list.  United States of entertainment.  So you got the Jackson story and they're trying to figure out where to do the funeral and memorial because everybody wants to be part of the story.  They're thinking about doing it at the Staples Center, I'm sorry, but that's not going to handle 10% of the people that want to show up at this thing.  They gotta be thinking Princess Di here in terms of the number of people that are going to want to be part of the story.  Princess Di, by the way, that whole thing, that's when the red flags went up with me.  That made zilch sense.

No, the people didn't even know her, but yet they were bonded and they were attached and they were attached because of what?  Well, she was pretty.  She was a princess.  She was ditched by a prince and she was running around with playboys on yachts and so forth and had that bad accident in a tunnel and everybody wanted to be part of the story because the media had built her up.  She's Princess Padme, Princess Leah, all combined, she was not a real person, a fairytale, people believe in fairytales.  United States of entertainment.  Bernie Goldberg ought to copyright that phrase.  What are you laughing at?

Comical State-Run Media Tries to Talk Up Tanking Obama Economy
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Yesterday on CNN's Newsroom, the anchor, Melissa Long, has this exchange with Wall Street correspondent Susan Lasovich about the economy.

LONG:  Nearly half a million jobs lost during the month of June, but is it possible to find a silver lining in all this?  We want a silver lining! Susan Lasovich at the store of the New York Stock Exchange with more.  Is there one?

LASOVICH:  The silver lining, if you will, is that May was revised... Uh, the previous month I should say, uh, was revised lower and that was May.  Also we have a separate report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas which shows the planned job cuts, the announcements slowed -- and that is the fifth straight month. So that is encouraging.  What is also high -- and this is also (snorting) a silver lining, is the first day of July starting off on a positive note. The Dow is up 128 points, the NASDAQ is up 25.  Good start.  Back to Paula, though, the second quarter rally that we saw.

RUSH:  It is so bad for CNN that that garbage can of a network, MSNBC, is beating them in primetime now -- and nobody's watching MSNBC.  This is profound.  A network with statistically, nationwide, zero audience is beating CNN in primetime -- and this is one of the reasons why.  Here we've just got the worst economic news we could get, and they're out there looking for silver linings. And you just lost your job yesterday or last month and they tell you, "You know what? May wasn't as bad as we thought." Well, hell's bells, let's go party! Yes siree, Bob! Let's go get the champagne and pop the cork -- and the stock market? "Oh, yeah! We got a great, great uptick here! The DOW is up 128, NASDAQ 125?" What is it? What is it here?

The NASDAQ is down big today. The Dow Jones Industrial Average spurting with 150 to one... Whoa!  Down Jones is down 179.  They want a silver lining, and so they invent one.  They find the silver lining when there isn't one. Can you imagine any of this happening with any Republican president?  I mean, with the Bush administration when we were in a booming, roaring economy they were trying to tell us we were in a recession and there weren't any silver linings and they weren't looking for any.  So this reminds us, let's go back to Monday of this week on the same network, CNN. We have a montage of Christine Romans, host of Your Money... Well, Betty Nguyen is speaking with the Your Money host, Christine Romans, about the economy.  Betty Nguyen, says, "Christine Romans is here to explain.  How did we do in the first half of the year?" ( laughing)  This is Monday on CNN.

ROMANS:  (giddy) We've seen a spring stock market rally that has been quite incredible!  Job losses are slowing! Consumer confidence is improving! People are feeling a little better.  They're feeling better because they're spending less. They're saving more money. They're getting back to basics. There's a new frugality that's making them feel better.  There was a hu-u-uuge rally in the stock market in the second quarter. The stock market [is] telling us that it thinks things are going to get better eventually, and you're going to see that rally. If you are still invested in stocks -- if you had faith and you were buying stocks along the way this spring, you're buying them at cheap prices -- you're going to see that rally when you open up your 401(k) statement.

RUSH:  God! This is just comical.  The best satire writer could not write the CNN scripts.  The difference is these people actually believe this.  Obama himself said, "Don't pay any attention to the stock market. It's like a tracking poll. It's up one day, down the next. We don't pay attention;" and Axelrod said, "We don't pay attention to stock market in our policies," and you're feeling better 'cause you're frugal. You're being more disciplined and responsible.  There's CNN.  Meanwhile (laughing), from the French News Agency -- which is not happy about the news. "US Jobless Rate Now Matches Europe's." (laughing) "What are you laughing at, Rush?  People are hurting."  Sometimes it's all you can do.  Here's the story:

"The unemployment rate in the 16 euro countries climbed to a 10-year high of 9.5 percent in May as companies cut jobs to survive Europe's worst post-war recession, according to EU data on Thursday. Some 273,000 jobs were lost across the eurozone in May as the unemployment rate rose," blah, blah, blah. "Although activity in the recession-hit European economy is beginning to pick up," and that's what whear seeing here. (laughing) "We're seeing signs it's coming back!  We've got audio sound bites of people saying it. "We're seeing signs that the worst is over."  Obama said, what was it, last month out of Beverly Hills. Well, what was the word, about the economy? We've hit the worst, we're rebounding, overboard it was but none of it's true.  So the US jobless rate now matches Europe.  It's exactly what was planned: turn the United States to one of these socialist European democracies, run by the elites who are never in pain.

Freedom: Kids Design iPhone App
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here is an amazing story, and I want to share the details of this story with you, within the context that Obama is saying, that government's going to mandate the invention of solar power and wind power. All these new green technologies, all this magical new energy, Washington and Obama are just going to dictate, just going to say, "Go do it," and it will happen.  And, of course, that's not how things happen.  This is a story of 11-year-old Owen Voorhees, 11.  "[F]or the last nine months he climbed a mountain of doubt, overcame unfamiliar programming languages and poured over college level computer science textbooks -- all to develop his very own iPhone application. Last month, his app, MathTime, debuted in the App Store [at iTunes] and quickly rose to No. 13 in the paid, educational apps section.

"The premise of MathTime is simple; it takes the old-fashioned flashcard 'mad minute' drill idea and adds a new media twist. Participants can practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on the phone by quickly solving problems with two taps of the phone, one to show the problem, one to display the answer." 'I thought it would be cool,' said [11-year-old Owen Voorhees of] Hinsdale, Ill.-native, adding, 'It's really cool to make something work, to make a little money, to do something like this and see it up' on the App Store. After he established the basic premise of the game, Owen's 9-year-old brother Finn designed the mathematical symbols in Photoshop. Once the design was done, the boys pitched the program to Apple. 'Nothing's impossible if you don't know it's impossible,' said John Voorhees, Owen and Finn's father, who created an app account and provided a bank number for the boys.

"'He dug into it all by himself. I didn't touch a line of code,'" that's talking about his son. "The Apps Store has over 35,000 different iPhone applications and games available for download. 'These two kids are unusually young to have done that, but the development environment is so easy, novice programmers with good ideas can now develop something compelling,' said Matt Murphy, a partner at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers." Sounds like a law firm. "Murphy also manages the iFund, a $100-million fund devoted solely to investing in start-ups creating apps for the iPhone." Now, I have a question.  Did a single president, member of Congress, or House of Representatives, or member of any statehouse give a speech one day and command the executives at Apple to create the iPhone?

Did they say, "You know what we need? We need an online computer place where we can buy music and store it and play it -- and we need a device where we can download it like an iPod, and then when we got the iPod we need to put a phone in there"?  Did government mandate any of this?  No!  Freedom, entrepreneurism, creativity.  Now we've got an 11-year-old who built his own math app reading college level textbooks.  It's people like this guy -- when the time comes, if we still have the liberty and freedom -- who are going to find the next unraveling of mysteries regarding energy.  But Barack Obama doesn't know a kilogram from a pound.  He has never run or done or accomplished anything that is anywhere near the private sector.  Yet Barack Obama claims to be the candy man, the magic man, who simply by virtue of his presence and demands will cause magic to happen.  While he purposely, systematically sets about destroying the very environment where people like 11-year-old Owen Voorhees can triumph.

Only the Insane Think Obama Could Repeal the 22nd Amendment

RUSH: Linda in Brighton, Michigan, nice to have you on the program.  Hello.

CALLER:  Good afternoon, Rush.  I'm just thrilled to death to talk to you.

RUSH:  I have about one minute, but I wanted to get to you.

CALLER:  Well, listen, what I had heard today on Fox television -- and I almost fell right through the floor, I couldn't believe it -- where there's some talk now that Obama is wanting to change the Constitution so that a president can live forever as a president.  And I'm really concerned about that because the last election with ACORN and their tactics and that, if he does that, I mean we might as well pack it in.

RUSH:  Linda, I mentioned this the other day on the program.  I don't know that he would have to change the Constitution to do it.  But I got people e-mailing me, "Come on, Rush, you're sounding insane, presidents can't have that kind of authority, they can't do that kind of stuff."  So whoever you heard talking about it on Fox is also insane and you're insane for believing it.  I'm surprised at all of you people out there.

Obama's Economic Plan is Working
We're getting exactly what Barack Obama wants:  Chaos.
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Unemployment is now at 9.5%; 467,000 jobs were cut in June.  This is "far more than what was expected." Since President Obama took office, over two million jobs in less than six months, or close to six months, have been lost -- and it is astounding, it is hilarious to read State-Run Media today try to go through the contortions of making this sound not as bad as it is.  Here is... Let's see.  This is Reuters.  "The June job losses were more than 100,000 greater than the 363,000 consensus of Wall Street economists polled by Reuters and that broke a four month trend..." We've got more... Unemployment's, what, more people out of work than since 1994!  It's incredible here.  Why is it so hard just to report it's worse than anybody predicted?  What is so hard about reporting how bad this is?  Well, because it doesn't fit the template.

You see by now everybody was supposed to be happy and we were supposed to be digging ditches and building roads and bridges and new schools -- and everybody was supposed to be wearing their Obama caps and uniforms and going, "Ooh, aren't we lucky! Aren't we cool," and it isn't happening.  Like I saw on TV this morning, this dunce reporter: "Is it time for a second stimulus?"  And the Obamaite actually goofed up and said, "I'm still trying to get my hands on the first stimulus." (laughing) Most of it hasn't been spent, ladies and gentlemen.  "Manhattan apartment sales plunged more than 50%. The average price dropped 21.4% to 24% from a year ago, down almost 2.5%," and they had computer problems at the New York Stock Exchange.  Before that they announced the worst pre-Fourth of July trading day in history.

And our good buddies over at the Associated Press try to say in their report that the recession began in December of 2007 and that we've lost a total of six and a half million jobs since then.  But that's not when the recession began.  The recession began in 2008.  They say 2007, so they can blame all this on Bush -- and even the Obamaite Lisa Jackson who was on TV this morning, kept talking about, "Well, it's what we inherited. We inherited... We inherited..."  So they're doing everything they can to blame this on Bush, to come out and say, "You know, it's worse than we thought it was," which, by the way, I predicted they would say.  "It's worse than we thought it was," and so now Obama is going to head out there and he's going to do a speech.

He's going to talk about the unemployment numbers at two o'clock this afternoon.  What do you think he's going to say?  He's going to say, "It's bad.  But I want it to be bad.  I didn't know how bad because we didn't know. We didn't get the truth about how bad it was from what we inherited.  But just think of how bad it would be if we hadn't acted." That's what he'll say.  You want to take any bets on this?  "It could be worse, folks. If we hadn't acted I shudder to think what our jobs situation would be in this country." It's precisely the wrong kind of government intervention that has caused this and prolonged it, and he owns it, whether he wants to or not.  The market was down, at one point today, 150 points on the news, on the unemployment news.  I still maintain -- and as you know, ladies and gentlemen, I'm not pulling any punches here.

I maintain that Obama's stimulus bill is working exactly as intended: rising unemployment, crisis.  This is what they want.  Now, if it starts affecting poll numbers, which it has, you're just going to see him out there trying to work his magic with his dulcet tones. Like at two o'clock this afternoon, he's going to be out there trying to make it all seem okay and how bad it would have been if he hadn't been elected, if he hadn't done the stimulus.  What we have today is just another day of evidence of the president's successful assault on prosperity.  Obama is winning, folks.  If things get bad enough, everyone will have to look at the government for everything, including health care.  Obama is remaking America just as he promised.

Let me ask you a quick question to illustrate my point here.  If you wanted more people to demand free health care, if you wanted more people to demand a government health care program, wouldn't you want to drive their bills through the roof?  Wouldn't you want to make 'em more and more unemployed because we don't have "portability" of health insurance.  So the worse you can create economic circumstances and the more pain that you can create for people, the greater the odds are they will sign up for your agenda.  This is by design, folks!  This is chaos.  This is "remaking America. " Cap and trade, health care, unemployment numbers, this is what they intend to do: "Return the nation's wealth to its, quote, unquote, 'rightful owners,'" and I don't say that in a complimentary way.  And the reason I am insistent and serious that this is being done on purpose is that (to borrow one of Obama's lines) there isn't an economist anywhere who would suggest doing this and keeping it up.

After one year of abject failure, compounding the problem, making it worse, they gotta be doing it on purpose.  Now, if you want to give Obama some slack, you might say, "Rush, you know what? He came into office and he had an agenda. He's going to do what he's going to do regardless the circumstances he finds."  So?  Even if you want to cut him some slack staying that, you're still talking about a guy who's a lousy president, who's not recognizing circumstance and doing his agenda anyway.  He is destroying the private sector he wants to fleece.  He's fleecing it and destroying it at the same time. He's taking it over.  There's evidence all over the place that Obama is remaking America just as he promised. He's pushing, begging, pleading, kneecapping senators now to pass cap and tax.  How many people have predicted good times are just around the corner since the moment he was inaugurated? Remember?  I've got the quotes coming up from Larry Summers, all these economic experts told you how hot it was going to be, how wonderful it was going to be.

They said unemployment would peak at 8%.  Now, I see MSNBC running a crawl that Obama said unemployment would peak at 9%.  When he's actually said, "It's going to hit ten." It's going to hit 10% and it's going to hit 10% this year, and wait 'til you hear some of the audio sound bites.  CNBC... I'm surprised that that network has not been shut down by Jeff Immelt at NBC, because he runs it, but that network today and this morning is just all over this, and it ain't pretty, and it ain't supportive of Barack Obama -- and that's not what they want at NBC.  So if you like some of the people at CNBC, watch today and tomorrow 'cause next week there's no telling if they'll have jobs.  We have sound bites from them coming up.  We also have two sound bites from CNN about how wonderful the economy is and the evidence that it's growing. The fact that you have less money is making you happier.  You're being more frugal! You finally have realized your responsibilities and disciplined people.  It's just amazing.

Libs Tweaked by MJ and Reagan
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, when the Mark Sanford news broke, I lamented he could have been our JFK.  And over at the garbage network, MSNBC, they didn't get it.  They actually thought I was comparing JFK and Sanford's policies, not their philandering.  Yesterday I knew they'd get it but they wouldn't understand it, and I was right.  I know these people.  Yesterday I went through the timeline of the Michael Jackson career, and I pointed out that Michael Jackson flourished, I mean, Michael Jackson epitomized the individual.  He was weird, you know, screwball.  But he wasn't part of a group.  And you don't hear anybody covering Michael Jackson songs.  Who else has recorded Billie Jean?  I mean not even the Hollyridge Strings, which covered The Beatles. Nobody covers a Michael Jackson song, that's how unique it is.  He flourished when?  Thriller, Bad, Delicious, the big sellers all during the eighties during the Reagan administration.  Then we get to the nineties and Michael Jackson languished under Clinton and Bush.  And, sadly, Michael Jackson died under Obama.  This was commented on MSNBC twice yesterday.  Here's the first.

SHUSTER:  Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show today about the death of Michael Jackson and his successes.  Watch.

RUSH ARCHIVE:  He reached a level of success that may never be equaled.  He flourished under Reagan, he languished under-Clinton-Bush and died under Obama.

SHUSTER: That is wrong on so many levels.

HALL: So many levels, that is wrong, but, you know what?

SHUSTER: Poor Rush.

HALL: Yeah.

RUSH:  That was David Shuster and Tamron Hall trying to figure out what to say about it. All they could do is say, "It's just wrong on so many levels, but you know what?  Poor Rush."  Later, F. Chuck Todd got in on this during Hardball and F. Chuck Todd was filling in for Chris Matthews.

TODD:  Leave it to Rush Limbaugh.  Check out how the conservative radio entertainer is spinning the death of pop star Michael Jackson.

RUSH ARCHIVE:  Michael Jackson's biggest successes, and as it turns out his final successes, real successes, took place in the eighties.  He flourished under Reagan, languished under Clinton and Bush, and died under Obama.  I mean, the facts are facts.  The timeline's the timeline.  Let's hope the parallel doesn't continue.

TODD:  It's always Reagan, right?  It always is.

RUSH:  (laughing)  And then, and then not so much about that, but over on NPR at PBS, the Fresh Air host Terry Gross spoke to Dan Balz, B-a-l-z, for those of you in Rio Linda, he's at the Washington Post and Gross said, "Do you think the Republican Party, a lot of people in the Republican Party see Limbaugh and other right-wing talk hosts who say extreme things as being helpful to them or harmful to them?"

BALZ:  Most Republican officeholders see them as they are, which is that they speak to a part of the base.  They do it sometimes in ways that are outrageous, that elected officials can't get away with.  But, again, they're not prepared to take them on.  They've got to work around them.  Most of the people who want to be leaders of the Republican Party don't want to get into an argument with somebody who has an audience as big as Rush Limbaugh's, and we've seen numerous examples of that.  On the other hand most smart Republicans don't think you can get elected president of the United States by speaking the way Rush Limbaugh does.  But Rush Limbaugh gives demoralized Republicans, you know, some energy.

RUSH:  So a psychoanalysis of the Republican Party and me by Dan Balz, B-a-l-z, the Washington Post. (interruption) What are you saying in there, Snerdley?  That wasn't a bad analysis.  For Drive-By and State-Run Media, not a bad analysis.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I need to correct myself, ladies and gentlemen.

What is it, Oxford? Is that the name of the town, Oxford, Florida? Find it on a map. Google it!  I want to find out how close it is to Port St. Lucie.  I need to be corrected.  Apparently Michael Jackson songs have been covered.  I said they hadn't.  The song Smooth Criminal was covered by the group Alien Ant Farm.  You ever heard of them? Apparently they shot to number one. It was the first song off their album and they shot to number one in Australia with it, the Billboard chart. (interruption) Miles Davis covered Human Nature?  Okay.  And Chris Cornell covered Billie Jean.  And then some people are telling me that, "Hey, Rush, come on. Weird Al Jankovic." Now, come on, don't... (laughing) He covered Beat It with a song called Eat It."  You gotta leave Weird Al out of this.  I remember Beat It, though. We almost lost our Kansas City affiliate over this.  You remember the Pee-wee Herman story? Pee-wee Herman was caught in the back of a darkened theater having fun with himself.  So I thought it would be appropriate to use Beat It as the theme song for the continuing legal update news on that and we almost lost our Kansas City station over that.  It took real diplomacy to hold on.

BREAK TRANSCIRPT

RUSH: I asked for the Michael Jackson bump.  I admit, only ten seconds of preparation time for the broadcast engineer. He said he had put it away.  Put it away?  It's a computer file, right?  You closed it.  Well, then, do you have our Pee-wee Herman update?  People to want hear this, and I think we're safe.  Okay, while we're playing just a little bit of this, some people listening today didn't hear the Pee-wee Herman update back then.  Go find Blood on the Dance Floor.

(playing of Pee-wee Herman spoof)

RUSH:  Just a little bit of it.  I know it's going to bug people.  I think we'll survive.  I'm sure it's going to bug people.

Advertising Trend: "You Deserve"
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I'm noticing more and more in advertising the phrase "you deserve."  You deserve brighter eyes.  Have you seen that commercial?  It's all over cable, the female doctor who uses the product, "You deserve brighter eyes."  Now, this is not a selling job.  I don't care whether you use the product or not.  That's not my point here.  There's a phrase that's recurring more and more in the age of Obama "you deserve."  In the last few days I've heard four different ads telling you what you deserve.  And, by the way, it's not new, but it's now becoming intensified.  You deserve a break today.  Quick, Snerdley, what company used that slogan?  That's right, Mickey D's.  That's before people started calling 911 when they ran out of McNuggets.  You deserve a better night's sleep.  You deserve a bigger income.  You deserve happiness.  You deserve brighter eyes.

Now, if the truth be told, no one deserves any of the above.  So why, you ask, are more advertisers playing the "you deserve" game, and why now?  Friends, it's not that complicated.  Advertising does not establish consumer trends, contrary to people like John Kenneth Galbraith and all these libs who thought advertising is rotten, creating a demand for products people otherwise wouldn't want.  It's not that all.  Successful advertising recognizes consumer trends.  Now, if liberals are out there telling everybody they deserve everything, why won't advertisers get in the game?  Barack's saying you deserve health care and you deserve a job and you deserve -- he's not getting you any, but you deserve it.  You know, people tell me all the time, "Rush, you deserve X."  I don't deserve anything. I've earned it.  I don't deserve it.  "Yeah, you deserve it.  You've been through hell and a lot of --" that doesn't qualify me to deserve anything.

My definition of deserve is very narrow, but it has broadened in our society now to mean basically as an American you are owed, you deserve whatever you want, and the added benefit is you don't have to provide it for yourself.  You can now vote for some schlub who says, you deserve it, and he's going to get it to you, at some point before he dies or you die.  Barney Frank, he's another guy, "You deserve affordable housing, Americans deserve affordable housing." So he devises a system where you can get a house without paying for it and creates the scandal and the problem that we are in the midst of.  There was an editorial yesterday in Investor's Business Daily and it laid it all out again.  I don't know how many times I've read this.  How many times have I read Barney Frank and Chris Dodd created the problem with Bill Clinton, and still it isn't mainstream.  It's been out there all over the place for years and years and years.  I'll tell you if you deserve anything, folks, right now it is reality. And the reality is, we are in heap big trouble, a little Indian lingo there.

The more you think you deserve, the less you actually deserve is the reality.  The more you're running around thinking you deserve something, the more you're probably also hoping.  And I'm not talking about the biblical context here of hope.  But people sitting around hoping, hope and change, "I hope" is an excuse for not doing anything while at the same time you think you deserve something.  So in the era of Obama, where the government is going to be your salvation and solution to everything, it makes total sense that advertisers would get in on the game.  You deserve brighter eyes.  You deserve a break today.  You deserve whatever it is.  I predict you're going to see this more and more often.

Holder: Whites, Ministers, Military Not Protected by Hate Crime Law
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I want you to hear this.  June 25th, a week ago, Senate Judiciary Committee, Eric Holder testifying, and this is the question. "Jeff Sessions presents a hypothetical where a minister gives a sermon, quotes the Bible about homosexuality and is thereafter attacked..." You know what the media didn't pick up yet?  Whether liberalism is chosen or whether you're born with it.  Once they get through the fog of the Jackson death, Media Matters will get that to 'em.  I'm sure they have it.  It's just a matter of it hasn't penetrated the fog there at the editors' desks.  Anyway, a question, hypothetical. "[A] minister gives a sermon, quotes the Bible about homosexuality, is thereafter attacked by a gay activist because of what the minister said about his religious beliefs and what Scripture says about homosexuality."  Is the minister protected? is what Sessions said. Here's a portion of the answer, the testimony from Eric Holder.

HOLDER:  Well, the statute would not -- would not necessarily cover that.  We're talking about crimes that have a historic basis.  Groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, that is what this statute tends -- is designed to cover.  We don't have the indication that the attack was motivated by a person's desire to strike at somebody who was in one of these protected groups.  That would not be covered by the statute.

RUSH:  In other words: ministers and whites are not covered by the hate crime statute because we're talking about crimes that have a historic basis, groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of their skin color, sexual orientation.  So hate crimes are reserved exclusively for blacks and homosexuals.  Everybody else can get to the back of the bus on this one.  So if you're a minister, if you're white, he didn't even say -- well, sexual orientation, that's not gender.  Not unless you've got an addadictomy, and he didn't talk about that, either.  So I guess at the front of the bus are blacks and gays on hate crimes.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Just to clarify this, more Eric Holder here from a testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 25th.  Senator Tom Coburn asked the attorney general if the Muslim radical who killed army recruiter Pvt. Long committed a hate crime, and here is a portion of Holder's response.

HOLDER:  There's a certain element of hate, I suppose.  What we're looking for here in terms of the expansion of the statute are instances where there is a historic basis to see groups of people who are singled out for violence perpetrated against them because of who they are.  I don't know if we have the same historical record to say that members of our military have been targeted in the same way that people who are African-American, Hispanic, people who are Jewish, people who are gay, have been targeted over -- over the many years.

RUSH:  All right, so the list has been expanded now.  The hate crime legislation will apply to African-Americans, Jewish people, gay people, so add Jewish to this, African-American, Jewish, and people who are gay.  But the military really haven't been targeted.  What in the world is he talking about?  Military hasn't been targeted?  Liberals have been targeting the military, hate crimes, for as long as I've been alive.  Islamofascists have been targeting Americans for decades, doesn't matter who the Americans are.  There you have it.  There's your new attorney general under Obama.  It's DEFCON 1, every day is DEFCON 1.  I had a guy say to me, "I've never seen a summer where the news never stops.  The news cycle is just, bam, bam, bam, bam," and that's true.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: By the way, the hate crimes legislation, I am happy about one thing.  My good friend Mark Levin, I'm comforted he is covered because Mark is Jewish.  I don't know if he has any historical problems here with people hating him attacking him but he's protected now anyway, thanks to the Obama administration.

CNBC Sounds the Economic Alarm
July 2, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This morning on CNBC Squawk on the Street, the guest here is the research chief economist from Argus, his name is Richard Yamarone.  Might be Yamarone, I didn't hear the name pronounced.  The cohost, Mark Haines, says, "You, sir, are a pessimistic?"

YAMARONE:  I've been traveling the country a lot in the last four weeks talking to small businessmen all over the country in different degrees.  Chambers of commerce, rotary clubs, they're all telling me there's no stimulus, there's no reason to hire, let alone increase capital spending.  There's no incentives.  Any tax incentives that we got last year expired in December.  There's no reason to carry on.  They're not worried about hiring workers.  They're worried about staying in business. So this is what I'm getting and it was that that forced me, those conversations I was having with what runs this country, by the way, the small business.

RUSH:  That's CNBC today, which the CEO wants to be to tank for Obama.  They're not worried about hiring workers; they're worried about staying in business.  There aren't any incentives.  This is purposeful, folks.  It's time to face the facts.  Nobody in their right mind who wanted to really help the US economy would do 10% of what this president has done.  It is purposeful to create more crisis to crate more demand for government solution and thus more dependence.  If you're trying to sell health care, if you're trying to sell the concept of nationalized health care, what better circumstance could you have than people losing their health care, because they're losing their jobs?  And we're now at nine-and-a-half percent unemployment and he doesn't care the impact on the country of all this.  The worse the better; the more chaos the better.  Obama's got a chip on his shoulder about this country.  He and all of his friends, administration buddies and so forth, far left radicals have a real problem about the unjust immorality that has always been this country.

Now, Obama, I'll give you an example, in a nuanced interview, AP calls it, he said affirmative action -- now, listen to this -- affirmative action can be made an afterthought when problems such as malnutrition, poverty, and substandard schools are dealt with and everybody has a level playing field, which means never.  There will never be a level playing field.  It cannot be mandated, it can't be created because people are different.  Malnutrition?  Where is he talking about, malnutrition?  Substandard schools?  I thought the stimulus -- I expected to see smiling workers with their little Obama hats hammering nails, building schools and roads and bridges and fixing all of the dilapidated infrastructure of the United States. It isn't happening.  None of it is happening.  We gotta deal with substandard schools, poverty, malnutrition, and then after that we gotta get a level playing field and then maybe we can make affirmative action an afterthought.

Strangest thing on the market today.

Right at the open, the DOW drops about 170+ points and then stays flat, and then drops a little more at the very end.
