How Palin's Resignation Makes Her the True Frontrunner
The Daily Beast ^ | Jul 4, 2009 | John Batchelor

Posted on 07/04/2009 7:04:31 AM PDT by skimbell

Rather than a blow to a career, Sarah Palin's decision to resign underlines her self-awareness, writes The Daily Beast's John Batchelor. She is now unmatched for the 2012 primary. The early excuse for the Republican circular firing squad of the holiday weekend is that Weekly Standard editor and party brainiac Bill Kristol claims that pugnacious McCain campaign enforcer Steve Schmidt has been caught gossiping to Vanity Fair’s Todd Purdum about Sarah Palin’s rambling and incoherent vice-presidential campaign last September and October...

Gov Palin is beholdin’ to no one. That is probably the thing that scares Dems and Pubbies alike. She will kick and take. That will be a problem for both sides of the aisle.

Every positive comment I have read on FR about Sarah Palin matches almost word for word the positive comments made here and elsewhere about G.W. Bush before he announced.

“Another Reagan, the real deal, a true conservative, energizes the base, etc”. All said about G.W. and all said because the “base” was desperate for someone, ANYONE to end the Clinton dynasty (i.e. Al Gore).

I'm seeing it all again.

These RINOs aren't half the Repubs they used to be...

Someone said recently: "The Republican Party has become like our father's Democrat Party....and the Democrat Party has become the Socialist Party as in cold war Soviet Union"....

I saw the Steyn piece. Time will tell who is right.

The importance of Palin is her Reaganesque ability to articulate principles and ideals that resonate deeply. Bush never had it. It is not something that one can manufacture. It comes from deep down inside.

BUsh was elected twice...and brought in a majority in the House and Seante. It is their fault that they did not perform and stand by Conservative principles when given the chance.

I do not believe for an instant that Sarah or those who come in with her will repeat those mistakes.

At the very least, given the state of affairs now, with an abhject marxist in the White Hosue abetted by majorities of the same in the Hosue and Seante...I pray we get the chance to try.

One thing is for sure we will be desperate to get this socialist hate-monger out of the WH one way or the other....

Levin disagrees with Steyn. I’m with Levin.

Palin has actually governed as a fiscal conservative, something GWB never did in Texas.

Yes...and I think Bush was moving too far left in both social ideology and fiscal restraint....

“I believe this woman, and I believe she is sincere.”

So do I. I think the implicit assessment on this thread of her life long courage and steadfastness as well as her actual popularity as well as POTENTIAL popularity is correct-which is why, at the back of my mind, I am beginning to fear that Sarah was taken out by the guy in the White house. Remember who he is and what kind of politics he and his boyfriend Raham play.

Who is the biggest threat to them at the present moment?

Sarah.

Who implements right of center solutions and profits thus showing the success of such solutions?

Sarah.

Who could continue to do succeed at the head of a state (as The OBozofurher’s “solutions” drag the nation into hell) and then run for President?

Sarah.

Sarah was never a quitter and yet she quits office with time left in her term...

May this be yet another instance of this paranoiac being paranoid.

I’ve said all along that she needs to work the Republican circuit, fund-raise and give speeches, probably for another 3 or 4 years at least (Reagan worked it quite a while longer and build up a nice contingent of followers and financing)... unfortunately, this abrupt resignation has shown political weakness (hard to spin it otherwise)...she has a lot of hard work to do to put that behind her...I think she should move to Florida and run for governor myself...incredible springboard...magritte

There is a massive difference between quitting the race and passing the baton....

She has a defense fund set up, but it has $150.00 limit.

Forgive me, but what exactly do you mean by "political weakness"?

A lot of the positive spin seems to be a lot of wishful thinking...taken in black and white, imagine if Jindal did this in LA...he would be declared politically done...

I'm still a Newt guy...I always pictured him as our political Limbaugh (studied, shrewd)...Palin is our political Hannity (on point, beats it hard, won't back down)...that is my ticket for 2012...magritte
