Oh, no. Not a child who thinks. Can’t have that, especially a girl. Best put her in a burkha and beat her if she tries to leave the house.

So you have no problem with a girl wearing a pro-choice t-shirt to school? Or a student wearing a "F**K Christmas" T-shirt as well?? (have you ever seen those, I have)

You libertarians crack me up. I went to public school many decades ago and we were not allowed to wear any provactive t-shirts, let alone shorts, ear rings, no dyed hair, goatees, our hair had to stop at the collar etc.

Gues what? We never thought our liberties were infringed upon and IT WAS A BETTER TIME TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!-that is for dang sure.

By allowing this crap (this girls t-shirt) all you are doing is allowing more crap to be worn.

When you’re OK with the government controlling your children this way, as adults they will be so used to it they won’t know anything else. We’ll have become a totalitarian state without lifting a finger to stop it.

Get real. This crap would never have been allowed in the 50's, sixties or maybe even the 70's and we never thought the gov't was taking away our rights.

If you can’t see a difference between the two, I’d be wasting my time arguing with you. And I’m far from being a libertarian. Since you mentioned goatees and earrings, I’m betting I was in school before you were. We couldn’t do the things you listed, either.

There’s a big difference between political speech and obscenity, taking a position or causing a disruption. Sensible people can tell one from the other which explains why most public schools today have a one-size-fits-all policy on most everything. It keeps the administrators from having to think. So, a drawing of a gun = a gun, and your kid gets expelled.

You strike me as one of those who would disallow everything to everybody because it;s easier than actually having to make a judgement call. I call that laziness.

Incidentally, you didn’t mention the clerk grabbing this girl by the arm and yanking her around. The good old days you are yearning for also allowed paddlings and other corporal punishments, usually unsupervised and often much more than was called for. I can remember being smacked in the back of the head with a text book for goofing off in class; I probably deserved it but I wouldn’t be in favor of bringing that sort of teacher behavior back, would you?

I don't think the public schools should be subjected to social engineering. That would include Pro-Life shirts or Pro Abortion shirts. The child may well have that opinion, but the public school is not the place to wear them.

I believe that discussion on such matters are acceptable in the classroom if it is part of the curriculum.

I would be highly offended if a student in my child's school wore a shirt supporting abortion on demand.

There's a time and a place for everything.

It's funny, I was only cracked one time and looking back I deserved it and the teacher warned me 2-3 times to stop what I was doing. You know what? I never did get in trouble agin.

All the kids that got cracked deserved it. Yes we need paddling back in school instead of time out in a corner.

As for the clerk grabbing this girl by the arm and yanking her around I would like to see what really happened and get the clerks side of the story.

I can’t argue with you there. I’d like to know more about the girl’s motivation to wear the shirt. If it reflects her own personal beliefs, more power to her. If she was doing it for her mother, that’s a different matter, although I still believe it is protected speech. The thing is, the left can get away with this sort of thing every day of the week, and if you dare to criticize, you’re being “intolerant”.

Funny thing, getting disciplined in school fifty years ago usually also resulted in a phone call home after the fact and if you had parents who really cared about raising you right, there was probably a second whacking waiting for you when you got there.

I would have a problem with a T-shirt with profanities, yes. I do not have a problem with a t-shirt that says something like, “I hate Christmas”, as long as my child can wear one that says “I am pro-life.”

So yes, profanities should never be permitted.
