Back in the 80's when he was throwing a piniata full of baked beans off a five story building, or running stuff over with a steam roller, that was funny. But of course that doesn't make you popular among the chattering class in New York. Once he stopped being a clown and tried to become a commentator he lost it. He doesn't have the wit to be a Denis Miller. Hammering someone without being nasty takes skill and class, Letterman has neither. He should have stuck to throwing bowling balls off of abandoned buildings.
