Obama Revives Bush Idea to Catch Illegal Workers(will abandon a controversial immigration crackdown)
WaPo ^ | July 9, 2009 | Spencer S. Hsu

President Obama will abandon a controversial immigration crackdown, sought by his predecessor, to pressure U.S. companies to fire 9 million workers with suspect Social Security numbers, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced yesterday.

Instead, Obama will mandate that federal contractors confirm the identities of 4 million workers against federal databases beginning in September, pushing ahead under pressure from Senate Republicans with another long-stalled Bush administration initiative.

Napolitano said her department will rescind a 2007 rule, tied up in federal court, that would have sent Social Security "no-match" letters to 140,000 U.S. employers. The notices were to warn companies to resolve discrepancies or fire suspect workers within 90 days, or face criminal penalties.

Instead, she said, the Department of Homeland Security will take a "more modern and effective" approach, ordering an estimated 170,000 federal contractors to confirm employees' work documents against E-Verify, until now a voluntary electronic government system for companies to check new hires' immigration and Social Security data.

Combined with a renewed emphasis by the DHS on targeting companies that hire illegal immigrants with civil fines and audits instead of high-profile raids, the moves mark the clearest sign yet of Obama's efforts to chart a middle course on immigration enforcement, analysts said.

The administration's announcement appeared aimed at satisfying law-and-order conservatives on Capitol Hill, where Senate Republicans successfully amended Homeland Security's $43 billion 2010 budget yesterday to extend E-Verify to federal contractors and to expand construction of fencing on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“1) They must know that the federal records don’t contain the info on contractors’ employees, so they will claim they are enforcing immigration laws but are really doing nothing of the sort.

2) This is a payoff to pro-illegal forces like USCofC, since they don’t have to worry about those pesky letters now.

3) Focusing on federal workers and ignoring the private sector is typical.”

EXACTLY!

Of course, Bush was no better, and now Jeb is pushing hard for amnesty.

“How many of those who hire the bulk of the illegal aliens are federal contractors?”

Noticed that too? Not the first time I’ve noticed crackdowns are only on federal/state “contractors”. IIRC, the Federal Government itself is THE largest employers of illegal aliens. And what about ALL the other businesses in this country who hire illegal aliens?

That wasn’t a 2007 rule, it was instituted in the 1970s!!!!

It should be inforced to the letter!!!!

QUESTION Are Sotomator and US government officials taking orders from foreign governments?

REFERENCE Sept. 3, 2008 article "Mexican president blasts U.S. policy" The president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, in his first state of the nation address, said, "Mexico does not end at its borders." He also reached out to the millions of Mexicans living in the United States, many illegally, saying "where there is a Mexican there is a Mexico."

BALDERDASH Americans demand OUR elected politicians explain to Calderon that Mexico does end at the border, and to advise his people to apply legally for entry into the US. Our senators and congressmen would get off their seats and see to it that our immigration laws are enforced. If a country does not enforce an orderly immigration policy, eventually it will implode.

Just for the record: how does Calderon treat illegals who enter his southern Mexican borders?

COULD BE THE IDEAL TIME TO DEMAND OBO PULL THE SOTO NOM : Call Congress switchboard: 202-225-3121 WH Switchboard: 202-456-1414

MESSAGE TO SENATORS: Americans are sending the word across the land: "Sotomayor's rulings shows she would make policy through the court. The US Constitution precludes judges from making laws. It is understandable that Americans are apprehensive: Sotomayor and her crowd are colluding to exert raw power over the majority---to turn the US into a failed Third World satrap. These racialists do not understand a sophisticated superpower----a democracy governed by the rule of law, based on three co-equal branches of government."

END MESSAGE Any Senator who votes to confirm Sotomayor risks his/her reelction chances.

ACTION Every senator should get 10-15,000 calls from Americans. Even with Dems in control, 10-15,000 calls could make a difference.....this is an issue that cuts across party lines. Ask Hillary who lost a primary b/c she endorsed licenses for illegals.

That is matriculas though right. And that data wouldn’t be in the federal database that would be cross referenced, right?

Again NJ Democrats Menendez and Lautenberg voted AGAINST e-Verify and AGAINST the border fence. Fortunately their stupid votes weren't enough to kill the bills.......which passed. Menendez has held up voting to continue e-Verify----- not because it needs revising, but because it works so well. New Jerseyans should vote this scalawag Menendez out of office. We need senators who work for the interests of citizen-taxpayer — not illegal invaders. E-Verify is NOT a waste--it ensures legal citizens' rights to secure a job.

FREEPER CALPERNIA is an expert on this......and has been bird-dogging this issue for some time. Thanks to Calpernia for originating the BEST remedy for American citizens looking to determine the origins of some of these creepy pols running for office....and their donors AND staff. PASS THE WORD to state and federal legislators, political leaders, media, etc: eVerify is already in place for employers. We need to eVerify incumbents and all politicans running for office----their staffs AND donors.

We need to register all political organizations so that Americans could enter the names of politicians wanting to run for public office.

The current eVerify Dept holds the position that politicians don’t work for us, they work for the government. Nonsense-----we are the citizens that vet them, vote for them, and pay their salaries. We need to confirm EVERY candidates' immigration status. Pass the word.

REFERENCE Donations with "unlimited names" were made to the Barack Obama 2010 campaign with Prepaid Store Value Cards. Obama's last campaign was awash with such cards for under the $200 reporting amount........ An assessment by the U.S. Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center dated October 31, 2006, regarding Prepaid Store Value Cards. The cards provide an ideal money laundering instrument to anonymously move money without fear of identification or seizure.

Narcotraffickers are using prepaid value cards to send money from the US to Mexico because this financial instrument is not subject to the usual measures against money laundering, according to Arizona state Attorney General Terry Goddard. ”This is something that is happening on our border, cards that are being provided by a few financial institutions, not major banks, but those that operate at a lower level,” he said during an interview.

The Prepaid Store Value Cards (as they are called in the US) are not defined as “monetary instruments” for money laundering and narcotraffic is taking advantage of that, knowing that the cards will not be inspected at the border.

All who cross the border from the US to Mexico must declare if they are transporting more than $10,000 in cash. Such people can carry more than a million dollars in value cards and are not required to declare it because they are not breaking any law, Goddard emphasized. In his opinion, the cards should be inspected at the border and the amount contained in them deciphered electronically.

If the cards could be regulated, it would be another blow to smugglers and narcotraffic. This money is the fuel that is feeding the drug violence.

It seems to me the bulk of the illegals work for restaurants, landscapers and builders (note the recent rise of articles lamenting the plight of poor Juan who can’t send money home now that house-building has pretty much stopped, and may have to self-deport himself), few of which are “federal contractors”.

>>>New Jerseyans should vote this scalawag Menendez out of office.

Can’t. NJ never purged their voter registrations of phantom votes that they were ordered to by US Attorney Chris Christie. Too bad Chris Christie never followed up on his order. Oh, he is running for Governor? On the phantom vote registry?

Huh, wonder how that will work out.

REFERENCE Identity Theft, Document Fraud, and Illegal Employment
Center for Immigration Studies
June 2009 | Ronald Mortensen
FR Posted July 02, 2009 La Lydia

Illegal immigration and high levels of identity theft go hand-in-hand. States with the most illegal immigration also have high levels of job-related identity theft. In Arizona, 33 percent or all identity theft is job-related (as opposed to identity theft motivated simply by profit).

In Texas it is 27 percent; in New Mexico, 23 percent; in Colorado, 22 percent; California, 20 percent; and in Nevada, 16 percent. Eight of the 10 states with the highest percentage of illegal aliens in their total population are among the top 10 states in identity theft (Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, Nevada, New York, Georgia, and Colorado).Children are prime targets.

In Arizona, it is estimated that over one million children are victims of identity theft. In Utah, 1,626 companies were found to be paying wages to the SSNs of children on public assistance under the age of 13. These individuals suffer very real and very serious consequences in their lives.

Illegal aliens commit felonies in order to get jobs. Illegal aliens who use fraudulent documents, perjure themselves on I-9 forms, and commit identity theft in order to get jobs are committing serious offenses and are not “law abiding.” ...They have fraudulent documents such as counterfeit Social Security cards, forged drivers licenses, fake “green cards,” and phony birth certificates.

Experts suggest that approximately 75 percent of working-age illegal aliens use fraudulent Social Security cards to obtain employment. Most (98 percent) Social Security number (SSN) thieves use their own names with stolen numbers. The federal E-Verify program, now mandated in only 14 states, can detect this fraud.

Universal, mandatory use of E-Verify would curb this and stop virtually 100 percent of child identity theft.

Poor Juan stole a good paying job from an American. Poor Juan can starve for all I care. And may the American contractor who hired Poor Juan end up in bankruptcy.

“As your great book “Jesus Wept” so aptly explains, backed up by that PBS series on this subject!”

Thank you, blackie.

My book really is a microcosm of all that goes wrong in governing. The story of the Cherokee “Pins” is the story of the the current leftist agenda (both democrats and elitist GOP).

First they pick charismatic leaders who can sway opinion...like, Chief John Ross.(who was 1/8th Cherokee...kinda like Obama is ‘black’...more BS.

Next the ‘chief’ suspends elections (or controls them ) and insures he is the only one to have contact with the ‘people’.....ie, Obama, McCain, etc. who have their media controlled.

Then the useful idiots come out, Like Jeb Bush telling us we “hate’ hispanics...well, that does keep the heat off the ones we should hate if they can convince us of that and causes us to hate those who are not our enemy, but useful tools to them, just as illegal aliens are...
Chief Ross convinced his ‘public’ that the real leaders who cared about them were their enemy...like Bush and his ilk are doing to Tancredo, Palin, Hunter.....

And if that doesn’t accomplish their ends, then the tyrants in power just go out and kill their opposition to silence them.....Just as the Pins assassinated the only leaders they had who would save them from themselves.

And if you don’t think they’ll kill us to shut us up, think again. But then they have imported radical muslim and Mexican narco terrorists to do that for them for now, haven’t they?
