Franken Shakes Off The Hoopla, Settles Into Job[First Earmark Wednesday w/Klobuchar; Famous McCain?]

His first votes were largely along party lines, including one against a measure to require building 700 miles of border fence by 2011, which he opposed because "none of the relevant effective law enforcement agencies were asking for it," spokeswoman Jess McIntosh said. Fellow Democrat Amy Klobuchar voted for the measure.

Many of Franken's new staffers -- 26 hired so far -- are Washington veterans, including chief of staff Drew Littman, a former lobbyist who has been an instrumental figure in setting up many Senate offices over the years.

Franken also signed on to his first earmark requests on Wednesday with Klobuchar. One would provide funding for the Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota's credit and financial counseling and the other would help start-up businesses in Minneapolis' Midtown Global Market.

Then there were more formal meetings, such as a brief sit-down Thursday with Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor and a gathering with Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Wednesday night.

With a smile on his face, he walked into a reception across town from the Capitol where he was greeted by cheering AFL-CIO employees. They held up enlarged copies of his election certificate, projected "60 in the Senate" on a massive screen and dined on State Fair delicacies -- walleye, fried pickles and cheese curds.

Franken's 15-minute speech had the eager audience roaring with laughter, but rarely strayed far from the issues -- pensions, health care and union labor.

Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly, a frequent target of Franken's satire, called the senator "a blatantly dishonest individual, a far-left zealot who is not qualified to hold any office, a man who trafficked in hate on his failed Air America radio program."

Are you making anyone's earmarks famous Senator McCain? Or is the campaign rhetoric just that?

Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor should be impeached for reaching all the wrong decisions overturned by the Supreme Court, along with impeaching the whole Minnesota Supreme Court for upholding a vote recount that had 25 counties counting more votes then registered voters.

Bill O'Reilly forgot to mention tax cheat.

And now that it's post-election, the state run media can start playing excerpts from Franken's failed Air America radio program, telling the voters they are idiots for electing such an idiot.

Well, at least we got rid of one of last years $700 billion dollar bail-out supporters, Norm Coleman

Are they still finding ballots in car trunks and in the bay? Have they let the dead rest in peace and quit bugging them to vote for Franken??? What a mockery they’ve made of our election system.

Franken has given us something — he has proven without any doubt THAT ANYONE OR ANYTHING can become a Congressman. On my evolutionary scale, I put the Congress below a practicing lawyer and even a clean politician (may be an undefined entity).

How much more proof do people need that television is Evil?

I have a shrine to Jesus where my TV used to be.

So the part Franken said about not being 1 of 60 Democrat votes is more rhetoric? He was going to be 1 of 2 Senators from Minnesota, like it mattered, this Democrat Majority Congress already has enough Liberal Republicans to pass everything President Øbama wants

I think it’s one of the local native American words up there for “doodoo”.

The hoopla is in Franken’s diaper. I just want to see him sit through other Senate Democrat’s speeches, i.e. Reid, Kennedy, et al
